 The Light Of The World
Christ's Church is to bring the Light of Jesus to the whole world.
Far from it, the presence of Christ in the Church, structured and organized as it is, continues to enliven the members of his Body and even to draw new members into union with him and with the other members.
The Body of Christ that is one and the same with the organized Church and all its members is always in need of renewal and forgiveness.

 Our Lady, Stowmarket
In 1970, in deference to the changing needs of the liturgy in the light of Vatican II, and, perhaps, an increasing awareness of the unsuitability of an upstairs church for less mobile people, a radical change was made.
The original church was on the first floor (note the tall windows that cut into the low roof to let in light), but the new extension allows a light, square church, simple and fitting for post-Vatican II worship.
The Suffolk Free Press, when rumours of the purchase reached its staunchly impartial ears, reacted: "Stowmarket has long been deemed the shining light of Evangelical truth in central Suffolk, but it is now becoming notorious for the activity with which Roman Catholic propaganda is being pushed within its midst.

Shining with the splendor of his life and teaching like the morning star in the midst of clouds, by his resplendent rays he guided into the light those sitting in darkness and the shadow of death” (no. 1).
In his struggles and trials, in his weakness and sufferings, in his desire to understand and accomplish the will of God, Saint Francis poured out his heart in the Church of San Damiano at the feet of Jesus Christ crucified.
In the tribute which Saint Bonaventure paid to Saint Francis, it is evident that any college or university which is embedded in the Franciscan tradition must then reflect those virtues which made Saint Francis a light to the people of his time.

The antiphon underscores the connection of a Doctor of the Church with light and love, with God’s law, with the Church and with the Son of God.
Often the pages of the Doctors glisten with tears shed over the person they were writing to, or because of their depth of feeling over someone’s resistance to truth, seeing how this hindered the cause of Christ and frustrated the cause of His Church.

The Cathedral: Soul of the City and the Community
The Cathedral Church, the Mother Church of the archdiocese, is the place where Christ gathers his people; it is the place where we are illuminated in faith, in hope and in truth; it is the place from which the mission of the archdiocesan Church flows out into the community.
That majestic Christ light is then carried into the darkened Cathedral where the chant is repeated and the flame is passed on to each member of the faithful, the light growing with each passing moment.
The Cathedral, so named because it houses the bishop& cathedra, his chair as bishop, is the primary place within the local Church for that celebration of the Eucharist and that experience of unity.
