Churchill, Manitoba, is a town on the shore of Hudson Bay in Manitoba, Canada.

The first permanent settlement was a log fort built at the mouth of the Churchill River in 1717 as a trading post for commerce with Inuit and Dene people, part of the extensive fur-trading network established by the Hudson's Bay Company.

To carry out its commitment at Churchill Falls, the Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corporation Limited was established in 1961 and granted a 99 year lease authorizing development of the upper Churchill River watershed.
The Twin Falls hydro plant on the Unknown River, a tributary of the Churchill River, was constructed in the early 1960's.
Utilizing this water at the Churchill Falls plant enabled approximately three times as much electricity to be produced from the same volume of water In July, 1974 the Twin Falls plant was closed and the water diverted into the Smallwood Reservoir.

After dinner, we started again to throw rocks down the river, but this time as we were Vikings or barbarians each one of us grabbed the biggest rock that we could carry and at the same time we would all throw them into the river.
