Loop quantum gravity (LQG), also known as loop gravity and quantum geometry, is a proposed quantum theory of spacetime which attempts to reconcile the seemingly incompatible theories of quantum mechanics and general relativity.
At the core of loop quantum gravity is a framework for nonperturbative quantization of diffeomorphism-invariant gauge theories, which one might call loop quantization.
Quantum Gravity and the Standard Model-- Shows that a class of background independent models of quantum spacetime have local excitations that can be mapped to the first generation fermions of the standard model of particle physics.

Supplemental coin acceptor/rejector mechanism for coin operated machines - Patent 4220234
The chute is automatically pivoted between gate open and gate closed positions in response to this microswitch and another microswitch sensing acceptance of a predetermined number of proper value coins of different size and weight to insure return of superfluous coins to the operator, in any sequence.
The mechanism further comprises a solenoid operatively coupled to the discharge chute such that energization of the solenoid causes the chute to pivot about its lower edge such that the chute opening is laterally displaced relative to the discharge path for rejected coins from a position intersecting that path to one laterally displaced therefrom.
Since the gravity flow path for the coins which are not accepted by the primary or first acceptor/rejector mechanism 14 is defined by the aligned openings or slots 18 and 42, it is important that the opening 66 within the upper end 68 of the chute be properly positioned with respect to this flow path.

Truax tried constructing a chute made of tin, coating the inside of his chute with glass and installing side chutes to reduce the speed of the falling grain.
Kelly's Chute began life as a tin grain chute in 1881 and converted to a bucket tramway in 1893.

 Pilot Attached Drogue
The PAD chute is a small, simple drogue chute designed to be reliable and effective when deployed from a hang glider pilot's harness.
The pilot-attached drogue chute is intended to be a convenience, not an emergency device, since it cannot be relied upon to deploy with complete reliability or promptness in critical situations.
The drogue chute is no panacea for poor landing skills or other flying problems (plenty of aluminum has been broken using drogue chutes), but it helps.

 Parachutes
Gravity is constant, but air friction changes with velocity.
But as the parachutist slows down, the frictional force decreases until it approximately equals the force of gravity, and a new terminal velocity is reached.
After the chute opens, a net upward force causes a positive acceleration which initially is great and then becomes small.

 Unloader for ring-shaped pallets
A workpiece having an enlarged head and a stem extending therefrom is conveyed in a gravity chute while supported vertically in a ring-shaped pallet with the head supported on the top side of the pallet and the stem extending downwardly through the pallet.
The ring-shaped pallets carrying the workpieces and travelling downwardly in an inclined gravity chuting are arrested by an escapement mechanism which meters the loaded pallets one at a time as they exit from the gravity chuting.
On the side of chute 34 directly opposite unloading chute 44 there is arranged a block 50 which cooperates with the bottom wall 48 of chute 44 to arrest the downward movement of the workpiece in the inclined position shown in FIG.

Chute can be extended up to 20 feet from the center line of the truck behind the rear tires, at the same grade as the tires.
The chute is able to turn 70 degrees to each side.
The chute is gravity fed, thus it can not go uphill more than 30 degrees (about 4' above tires).

Flight Training and Instructions for Ultralights, and Powered Parachutes.
C. You should be familiar with all major components of the craft and chute, what their purpose is, and how to operate them.It is recommended that the pilot spend a good amount of time just sitting in the craft familiarizing himself long before he attempts to fly the craft.
If the chute is lagging to your left as you look up at it, then the wind is coming from your right and you must push the control stick right to turn the craft to the right.
Although you can expect the chute to reinflate after a brief period of freefall, severe wind shear is very hazardous to all aircraft and is to be avoided at all cost.

 RETURN OF THE PIRANHA
A gravity slide chute let autos and other scrap gravity feed into the maw of the feed roller as the material dropped from the end of the feed conveyor into the chute.

The motors, gas tanks, and transmissions had been removed from the large autos; the 4-cylinder smaller motors and transmissions in the compact cars were drained of oils and fluids and left in the bodies.

 Mars Pathfinder FAQs - EDL
Our chute on Mars is about the equivalent of a chute 38 times smaller in area on Earth (6.5 ft across!), and this includes the effect of Mars' lower gravity!
Remember, the drag FORCE a chute generates (therefore its deceleration), is proportional to the square of the velocity and only linearly proportional to the atmospheric density; so even a thin atmosphere and a "small" chute will do much to slow our entry vehicle down once the heatshield's aerobraking has been mostly achieved.
For chutes that open up at low speeds (say after a drag chute has slowed the lander down), then maybe the problem could be solved more cost effectively.

Using balance equations, constitutive relations, and boundary conditions that result from kinetic theory, we calculate the fields of mean velocity, fluctuation velocity, and concentration accross the chute, for a variety of flow rates, particle parameters, and chute width.
We find that, given particle parameters and chute width, within a certain range of volume flow rate there are two qualitatively different steady flow regimes.
For dense slow flow, as the chute width is decreased, average concentration decreases and average mean velocity increases, i.e., the flow tends towards the dilute fast flow regime and vice versa.
