  Kieran Doherty - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kieran (or Ciarán) Doherty (Irish name: Ciarán Ó Dochartaigh; October 16, 1955 – August 2, 1981) was a member of the Provisional IRA in Belfast.
During the chase Doherty managed to leave the van and hijack a car but was caught as he was escaping.
He was convicted and sentenced to 18 years for possession of firearms and explosives, with another 4 years for the hijack.

After points were exchanged by both sides early in the second period, St.Pats hit the first of their 3 goals after a high ball was misjudged in the Kinawley goal line leaving a St.Pats forward the simpliest task of shooting to the net.
Ciaran Crudden and Ciaran Leonard had their moments at midfield whilst Declan Cathcart and Shay Keenan were the most consistent of the forward line.

Seamus Doherty has been remanded in custody charged in connection with an incident in Newry when an explosive device was found and this week solicitor Mr.
Ciaran McLaughlin was called from Maghaberry prison yesterday to the witness stand at the Bloody Sunday Tribunal.
In over one hour of his testimony, he described the panic and terror as he and his neighbors fled for their lives, taking cover however they could, as British soldiers fired at civilian targets so close to him that his denim jacket had a bullet hole through it.

 Ciarán Ó Maonaigh
Doherty recorded the reel for both Peter Kennedy and Breandán Breathnach, but his most widely known version appears on the eponymous Gael Linn 1978 LP (later reissued on CD as Taisce).
In this case Dermot takes the lower octave, just as John Doherty's brother, Simon, was wont to do, while Ciarán applies himself to the higher range.
Dermot also accompanies the first run through of the tune by simply using drones, often interjecting them later too, to reinforce the imitation of the sound of the pipes which was such a part of the Doherty brothers' own formative influences and subsequent playing.

Ciaran's uncle, Ned Curran is a great fiddle player and has given the band unusual tunes.
Ciaran was introduced to a lot of traditional music and musicians by his friend Cathal McConnell (flute player with The Boys of the Lough) from whom he also learned many tunes.
Ciaran has worked with Co. Antrim singer Len Graham, with fiddle players Ben Lennon and Seamus Quinn and with singer Gabriel McArdle.

His father was a well-known fiddler and the Dohertys were frequent and welcome visitors to the Campbell home.

The funeral was also attended by several leading figures from the Government in which Mr Doherty was a member in the 1980s, including former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds and former European Commissioner Ray McSharry.
Mr Doherty's body was laid to rest at the Ardcarn Cemetery.
