GO BRITANNIA! Wales: Sacred Places - Cilmeri
To understand the significance of Cilmeri, we must turn back in history to the Edwardian Conquest of Wales during the latter part of the 13th century.
The ambition of King Edward was to unite the whole of the island of Britain under his kingship, and this meant he had to ultimately conquer Wales and Scotland.
Edward was forced to devote all of his kingdom's resources to deal with the "malicious, accursed" Welsh, yet it was a mere chance encounter in a meadow at Cilmeri that ended the Welsh dream.

 Cilmeri: Touring Wales on Britannia
For many who do more than just love Wales, Cilmeri is its most hallowed and saddest spot, for it is here, in a quiet meadow just outside the town of Builth Wells that Welsh-born native prince Llewelyn the Last (Llewelyn ap Gruffudd) was slain.

Llywelyn, separated from his army, found himself in a minor skirmish in which he was killed by an English knight unaware of the Welsh prince's identity.

For many who do more than just love Wales, Cilmeri is its most hallowed and saddest spot, for it is here, in a quiet meadow just outside the town of Builth Wells (Llanfair ym Muallt) that Welsh-born native prince Llewelyn the Last (Llewelyn ap Gruffudd) was slain.
At Cilmeri, in the quiet green meadow on the road from Builth Wells to Llandovery, you will see a tall granite monolith.
At first glance, It looks like one of the ancient standing stones erected thousands of years ago by our neolithic ancestors, yet a closer inspection reveals it to be a monument erected in l956 to the memory of Prince Llywelyn "our last ruler." (Ein Lliw Olaf).

If any one person should be credited with the launch of what became this annual Cilmeri Patriotic Gathering then the credit must go to A.H. Lewis RIP who organised a bus of patriots out of the ‘Patriots Rest Club’ of Cwmbran to attend that first Cilmeri rally.
Schoolchildren from all parts of Wales lined up to climb the Cilmeri mound to be presented with a commemorative scroll registering their attendance at the historic event, Cayo Evans and Dennis Cosslett laid their wreath on behalf of the FWA - as did many others on behalf of their organisations.
The intention is to ensure that this film, with footage taken over many years, is made available to a wider public and it is hoped to have it ready in time to premier it in association with the 1282 – 2007, 725th anniversary commemoration in a private viewing ex – COFIWN members and supporters.

Yes, Cilmeri, that is indeed a pic of JD from the movie.
The film was released in 1985, so he would have been about 21 or 22 when it was filmed, I guess, unless there was a huge delay between filming and releasing (he was born 1963).

Lampeter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lampeter and its surroundings are home to a theatre (Theatr Felinfach at Felinfach), a museum and a number of locally owned shops.
Cardiganshire was one of the royal counties established by Edward I after the defeat of Llywelyn the Last (Llywelyn Ein Llyw Olaf) at Cilmeri in 1282 — Lampeter fell under direct Royal Control.
This however had little effect on the culture of the town, as the Welsh language and culture have continued to thrive.

 Owain Glyndwr Embassy/Llysgenhadaeth: COFIWN CILMERI COMMEMORATION 1966 - 2006
Not too far away, at Cilmeri, stands a memorial to mark this tragic event that is seen as the beginning of the conquest of Cymru 1282- 84.
Well, even though the Cilmeri Cenotaph has been erroneously placed, it is in the general area of the above historic account and thus, it is unnecessary to consider moving the cenotaph now or, indeed, to abandon the annual Cilmeri Rally.
Alternatively, if staying the night locally, we suggest you visit the Cilmeri cenotaph on the Sunday morning followed by Sunday dinner in the Tafarn Cilmeri before proceeding on to Abaty Cwm Hir for the annual 1282 Remembrance Service at the COFIWN Llywelyn ap Gruffydd memorial there.

A number of modern reconstructions of the crwth have been made; makers include Guy Flockhart, Nial Cain and Gerard Kilbride.
A handful of folk musicians are reviving the tradition of playing this instrument, among them Cass Meurig (who also plays with the groups Fernhill and Pigyn Clust), Bob Evans (Bragod), and Dan Morris (Cilmeri).
The repertoire of surviving crwth tunes is very small, although many other traditional tunes can be adapted for the instrument and new tunes are being written for it.

cilmeri.com - Review - Rather limited Celtic web directory
There's not many Celtic web directories, even less bi-lingual ones, so its shame that Cilmeri isn't better than it is.
Its design is strictly functional (though that's not great loss for a directory, where speed is of the essence).
More importantly though, although it caters for Wales, Ireland, Cornwall and Manx, Cilmeri is rather thin on entries.
