In Montreal, Cineplex has been driven out of the downtown core almost entirely, and operates primarily in the suburbs, so it does kind of make sense for them to want to reclaim some territory.
I think it's entirely likely, however, that if Cineplex were to buy Famous, that they'd probably keep the brand as is, and have different theatre chains operating in different markets, and offering a different selection of films.
