U.S. Patent: 5304672 - Method for the preparation of substituted 1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-cinnoline-3-carboxylic acid, esters ...
The present invention relates to a method for the preparation of certain substituted cinnoline derivatives, to new chemical intermediates used to prepare such cinnoline derivatives and to a method for the preparation of said intermediates.
The substituted cinnoline derivatives have utility in regulating the fertility of certain plants.
Among the preferred esters of the carboxylic acid group at position 3 of the cinnoline ring are esters formed from fatty alcohols or from fatty acid monogylcerides.

Frequency selective optical data storage system - Patent 4158890
cinnoline dissolved in said host material to provide a concentration therein of between 10.sup.-2 wt % and 10.sup.-6 wt % wherein said cinnoline upon exposure to light from said laser undergoes an irreversible photo-induced reaction resulting information stored in the non-volatile ground state of said cinnoline in the frequency dimension.
The improved storage material system includes a guest material of cinnoline or a cinnoline type material which is dissolved in a host material of naphthalene or durene.
The solubility of cinnoline in naphthalene is at least 10.sup.-2 wt % with the preferred concentration being in the range of 10.sup.-5 to 10.sup.-6 wt.

St Andrews University eprints - Benzimidazoles, imidazopyridines, and other structural relatives of natural purines, ...
Smith, Dr David M (2001) Benzimidazoles, imidazopyridines, and other structural relatives of natural purines, Fused cinnoline derivatives and Aromatic and heteroaromatic monomers for polymerisation studies.
The N-oxides of benzimidazoles cannot be made by direct N-oxidation of the parent heterocycles, and are therefore usually synthesised by the cyclisation of appropriately substituted derivatives of o-nitroaniline.
The effect of substituents on the aromatic rings, and the incorporation of non-linear units into the backbone, on the characteristics of the polymers have been investigated for several polymer types.

o-Nitroaryl-bis(5-methylfur-2-yl)methanes as Versatile Synthons for the Synthesis of Nitrogen-Containing Heterocycles   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The reduction of 2-nitroaryldifurylmethanes gave the corresponding anilines 2a,b or indole 3 depending on the reaction conditions.
A plausible mechanism for the last reaction involving intramolecular heterocyclic addition between a nitroso-group and a furan ring is proposed.
Treatment of isothiocyanates 7a,b with perchloric acid resulted in a new rearrangement with furan ring migration leading to the 4-Hbenzothiazine-3,1 derivatives.
