		Erasure has named their second album "The Circus," in which Vince Clarke and Andy Bell are ringmasters of a show filled with synth pop bliss that's deeper than it appears.
		The Circus, while not an obvious choice for a single, is a stroke of genius, in how it mixes a "carnival" sound with such grave lyrics about the disenfranchisement of the working man. The album "proper" ends with Spiralling, which for my tastes could have been left off altogether, though it has its fans.
		Erasure's break-through album, The Circus, is a considerable improvement over their debut, Wonderland, and up to this day remains one of their best releases of all.

		Movin' On (get the album title?) with Dawn is entirely instrumental (8 min long) and is one of the better example ever of what descriptive music is, and ranks up with some of the masterpieces of impressionist classical composers of early 20th century.
		CIRCUS is very smart about the track order, as well; starting with the likeable (and at times almost even danceable) "The Bandsman", each song gets a little deeper and more texturally intricate than the last.
		The entire album is fascinating and captivating in it's grandeur, and completely listenable with the combination of adventure, so it's definitely the type of presentation that a lot of bands can hope to create as good within their own works.

		Anyway, this album is lacking the input os Ballard and the concept had been done a few times before : Circus - Magical Mystery Tour, In Twas Held In I (superb 17+ min track from Procol), so this spelt the end of that band.
		With 'Circus' he had a free rein to do as he pleased, and in doing so came up with the most consistent and beautiful Argent album of them all.
		Another highlight, for me, is the second ballad on the album, the whimsical,'Shine on Sunshine' shades of The Beatles about this one.

		All the publicity and hype surrounding Common's new album, Be, has focused on two things: the collaboration with kindred spirit Kanye West and the "return to form" for Common after the disappointing sales of his last album Electric Circus.
		He gives reasons why the album sounded the way it did (he wasn't into much hip-hop at the time) and his motivations for doing it (he wanted to expand the boundaries of hip-hop).
		Also, the album doesn't use rock from the 80's or the 90's as a starting point, but rock primarily from the 1970's, the progressive, experimental kind.

		The album is primarily instrumental, with the odd light German vocal by Schunzel.
		With the second album, they moved more into the 70's direction, honing-up their instrumental prowess; there are blistering guitar attacks, and brilliant, dynamic synth interludes that will leave you wanting more.
		Granted, this album has some very good moments, but overall their style is old, the playing not complex enough and the fantasy/sci-fi image an bit tiresome.

	Common - Electric Circus - Album Reviews - The Elements - Your One Stop For Hip Hop and Rap Music
		The new marriage in my eyes produced one of the most underwhelming albums of the last 5 years, "Like Water For Chocolate", which paired a 'mature' Common with sleep-inducing beats, save for a handful of tracks.
		Another beef I have with the LP is that apart from a couple of tracks, EVERY track on "Electric Circus" has a guest of some sort, usually of the RandB persuasion.
		In the end, what Com has made with "Electric Circus" is an album that any 35 to 40 year old fan of hip hop should love.

		Erasure's second album, 1987's THE CIRCUS, is one of their most uncompromising in several ways.
		An important note: Later in 1987, THE CIRCUS was radically reworked into the remixed/re-recorded THE TWO RING CIRCUS.

		Caught the circus down on the riverfront here in Nashville back in September, and there were about 50 people on stage dancing during Atomic Dog (in addition to the people actually playing instruments).
		Naturally they pulled the plug at curfew and the band kept playing and George kept inciting the crowd while the crew tore down the stage.
