Columbia vs Cirrus   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Cirrus Factory in Duluth, MN Both are a fixed tricycle gear, four-person aircraft and both use a Teledyne Continental Motor 310 hp normally aspirated fuel injected engine.
Cirrus controls are more representative of a standard yoke and the Columbia is more representative of a traditional “stick.” As a result, the Columbia provides a more intuitive and much smoother command authority without the tendency to over control the aircraft while making changes to pitch and/or heading.
Cirrus overloads the function of the hat switch on the side yoke to double as electric aileron and pitch trim and as an autopilot disconnect (push straight down).

Cirrus SR20 (and a bit about the SR22)
Cirrus Design was founded in 1984 by Alan and Dale Klapmeier, brothers from Baraboo, Wisconsin.
Cirrus ducked out of paying by noting some fine print: "The seller does not provide any warranty either expressed or implied for those items which are expressly warranted by the specific manufacturer." The buyer had paid for a three-year extended warranty, but the alternator was only covered by a one-year warranty.
Cirrus obviously thinks so because as of June 2005 they are offering a $7,000 incentive package on the SR22 to student pilots and VFR pilots with less than 250 hours of total time (the incentive does not apply to the lower-power lower-speed SR20).

Cirrus Logic Expands into New Markets with Design Kit for Car & Consumer Audio Systems
The design kit builds upon Cirrus Logic's innovative Crystal system-in-silicon audio solution, which integrates five previously separate components into a single-chip, including a 24-bit digital signal processor (DSP); RAM for program and data storage; a phase lock loop (PLL) clock generator; a digital audio transmitter port, and a stereo CD quality digital-to-analog converter (DAC).
While these devices would not be utilized in a typical CS4912 design, they are included in the CRD4912 to allow a designer to evaluate the performance of the CS4912 and associated DSP firmware independently of the ADCs and DACs.
Cirrus Logic is a premier supplier of precision linear circuits and advanced mixed-signal system-level chip solutions, the latter which demand high-performance mixed-signal processing, embedded DSP, algorithms and firmware.

The Cirrus SR20 was constructed around a cabin that’s specifically modeled after the BMW 5 series sedans, and the airplane represented new concepts in several key areas.

This parachute was accepted by the Federal Aviation Administration as an alternate because the Cirrus was unable to meet the minimum design criteria for spin recovery, design criteria that all other certified aircraft must meet.
The Cirrus cannot recover from an ordinary spin and its Pilots Operating Handbook states don't "waste time and altitude trying to recover from a spiral/spin before activating CAPS." CAPS is standard on every Cirrus.
All Cirrus aircraft use a mechanical "side stick" instead of the traditional yoke or stick flight controls.
