		Citizen Fish recently ended a long period of inactivity with a tour and split 7” with New York’s Leftover Crack.
		Fans of their previous releases (on the band’s own label Bluurg, Lookout and Honest Don ’ s) will not be disappointed by this one, as it yet again combines crunchy chunks of ‘old-school’ punk with solid skank rhythm.
		Backed with singer Dick Lucas’ insightful socio-political lyrics, the album was written and recorded last August in a flash of motivation to get the Fish up and swimming again and shows the band as inspired as ever.

		Brighton-based four-piece The Fish Brothers were next, with half an hour or so of a humorous mixture of Victorian Music Hall and punk rock.
		Finally, anarcho-punk legends Citizen Fish took the stage, and their singer Dik Lyndall opened with a lengthy and impassioned speech about why mental health service users should be treated with dignity and respect.
		After that they played three quarters of an hour of loud and raucous songs and the audience, if the term may be used, went mad, pogoing wildly and risking serious injury with some spectacular stage-diving.

		It's sad to say that I, being a huge Subhumans fan, had never heard Citizen Fish before I received this CD (due to some bad advice from my friends).
		Dick's vocals are as great as ever, Trotsky's drumming was as tight as forever, and Phil, being on guitar, showed me he was strong on any string instrument.
		Citizen Fish's bassist, Jasper, had a lot of strong bass lines that kept the music bouncing.

	Citizen Fish isn't mushy
		What he has written, as lyricist for the Subhumans from 1980 to 1986, for Culture Shock until 1989, and now for Citizen Fish, is a fair share of protest songs that never made it on to any benefit album.
		One of the most discussed topics of any Citizen Fish LP is consumerism, as seen in "City On a River" and "Platicash" on Thirst, and as the main theme of Millenia Madness.
		Dick, the lead singer, believes that "The nature of consumerism over human nature, the way people are becoming reliant on machinery and technology, and what they are told to think by the media and advertising, lessens their ability to communicate in a social way."

		This band's been at it a while, since 1990 they did their first U.S. tour-a touring machine these blokes, having first evolved from "Subhumans" status, the name, if familiar then, certainly should be.
		Not unlike a Clash, though with hints of reggae flavor and hang loose vibe, I'm not getting an apolitical agenda to try to keep up with here, early on anyway, things are just slightly less inclinated toward a tensely tacked backdrop.
