  City and Guilds of London Institute - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The City and Guilds of London Institute was founded by the London Livery Companies for the purpose of training craftsmen and engineers in 1878.
In 1907, the latter two colleges were incorporated by Royal Charter into the Imperial College of Science and Technology and The Central Technical College of the City and Guilds of London Institute was renamed the City and Guilds College but not incorporated into Imperial until 1910.

These colleges were also leaders in providing a type of education seen by many as necessary in the early twentieth century and many of their graduates went on to become leaders in their fields.
The City and Guilds College was the largest engineering school in Britain and, similarly, the number of chemists who graduated from the City and Guilds and the Royal College of Science (before and after the chemistry teaching was amalgamated) was greater than elsewhere.

Students from the City and Guilds College Union took part in London’s annual Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday, designing and building a float and then accompanying it in the traditional procession.
Historically, it marks the day when the Guilds of London celebrate their prosperity and the Lord Mayor parades in a flamboyant gold carriage through the heart of London’s City district.
City and Guilds traditions were carried out throughout the day, notably by Chris Jackson who bravely carried Spanner, the 64lb CGCU mascot, on his shoulder for the entire length of the procession.

Applications are invited for City and Guilds Association Accommodation Bursary Scheme which is open to undergraduates of the EEE Department.
The award of approximately £700 for one year is given to a student of satisfactory academic ability, for contributions to College activities (sporting, social, etc), to enable the student to afford accommodation in or near the College, and thus to encourage further participation in these activities.
Applications, stating name, present year of study and a CV containing details of the applicant's contributions to College life should be submitted to the Undergraduate Office on or before April 26th.

The College’s Office of Alumni and Development is leading the fundraising campaign and is planning a number of fundraising events at the College as well as internationally to raise awareness of Imperial’s celebrations.
