| | Innovation - New Victorian Materials Recovery Facility (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06) |
 | | The Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) is the first of its kind to be built in a residential area the nearest house is only 50 m away, and its function is to dump, sort and dispatch kerbside waste collected in the region to recycling plants. |
 | | The MRF designed by Spowers, architects for the Banyule City Council, is a huge acoustically sealed concrete box housing machinery, with another concrete box appendage housing offices and an education centre, surrounded by a 3.6 m high acoustic barrier. |
 | | The plant would be large enough to service other councils in the region, Banyule would not incur new land costs or need additional EPA approvals for the site and one central plant would reduce the cost of transport per tonne of recyclables. |
