The City of Beacon Permanent Firefighters Association (BPFFA) is made up of 12 paid full-time career firefighters that are all members of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local 3490, the New York State Professional Firefighters Association (NYSPFFA) District 3, and the Dutchess County Professional Firefighters Association (DCPFFA).

On August 7th, 2006 the Beacon City Council commended a piece of legislation passed by New York State (NYS) that prohibited discrimination, harassment, and bullying in public schools.
The board requested that the Beacon City School District provide information to the Council that identifies the actions taken to comply with the NYS Bill.
The law requires school districts to develop procedures that create a school environment free of discrimination and harassment by establishing guidelines for the training of school personnel, and establish guidelines for development of nondiscriminatory instructional and counseling methods and require that at least one member of each school staff trained to hand human relations.

The recently consolidated City of New Whatcom — formed by the merger of the north bay towns of Whatcom and Sehome — was bursting at the seams during the boom days prior to the depression of 1893.
The newly formed New Whatcom City Council had moved out of the 1858 county courthouse (reputed to be the oldest brick building in the state still standing today) and into a new triangular building called the Oakland Block (also still standing).
There the city hall was to be accessible from two streets, which explains the building's virtually identical front and rear exteriors.

Beacon police officer Anthony Hopper was shot today responding to a report of trespassing in the parking lot of the Forrestal Heights apartment buildings.
The Poughkeepsie Journal is reporting today that City Administrator Joe Braun has had a suit filed against him alleging that Braun told the City of Beacon Police to, "...have [no] contact of any kind, either directly or indirectly," with two City women.
Though Beacon Police have yet to identify the body, an autopsy revealed that the woman had at least one child, had brain surgery in the past, was between 35 and 50 years old, and had a tattoo of the letter "B" on her upper left arm.

The city wasn't incorporated until May 15,1913, when the old villages of Fishkill Landing and Matteawan were combined to form the City of Beacon (named after the Beacon fires lit at the summit of the Fishkill Mountains to alert the Revolutionary Armies about British troop movements).

As their perennial request to export radium waste to an established Idaho facility is denied, Denver has decided to suspend their almost completed streets project rather than risk entanglement in the looming legal battle surrounding the Clean Harbors Deer Trail hazardous waste facility in eastern Adams County near Last Chance.
The City and County of Denver found it difficult and more expensive to perform street repair projects in the areas where radium had been dispersed because of the special precautions that needed to be taken.
The city decided when street crews needed to break pavement to perform repairs, they would excavate the radium under the pavement and send it to permanent, safe storage.
