Clarence Henry Grothe, the son of Henry and Mary (Konicek) Grothe, was born Oct. 4, 1916 in Pine Township, Pine County, Minn. He attended the rural elementary school district #1580, commonly known as Sauter School, and went on to attend Pine City High School.
The original home on the property was a hand-hewn log structure, and when his growing family outgrew the log home in the early 1950’s, he built a modern home using sawed lumber from timber felled and cut from the woods on the property.

When the City of Clarence-Rockland looked at all of its water treatment facilities and common wells, it realized that many of the smaller towns like Clarence Creek, Bourget, etc. had inadequate plants that would have to be brought up to standards.
A study that was commissioned in the spring of 2001 suggested that the entire city's water supply should be updated with a central treatment plant (currently in Rockland) carrying water to the all the towns that needed upgrading.
In the meantime, residents of Bouget, Clarence Creek and Hammond are still being advised to boil their water for one minute before drinking it after it was determined the water from communal wells serving the hamlets contained an excessive amount of suspended particles.
