City of Edinburgh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
City of Edinburgh (Mòr-bhaile Dhùn Èideann in Gaelic) is one of 32 unitary council regions in Scotland.
Primarily comprised of the city itself, there are also a number of villages within the authority area too.
One of their recent initiatives was to try and introduce road tolls for those entering the city, as well as tolls for those entering the city centre from within the city as well.

The other councils, which together fund 25 blind and disabled workers from their area to work at the Peffer Place business, have refused to pay what Edinburgh City Council claims to be their share of the deficit.
The city council, which funds the remaining 41 disabled workers, at a cost of around £27,000 a year each - nearly three times the £10,000 averaged at similar centres in the UK - has already forked out £836,000 for its share of the total deficit.
But the report, which is due to come before the city council tomorrow, states that disabled workers from other areas will lose their chance to work at BlindCraft because of their local authorities’ refusal to pay.

Scotsman.com News - Scotland - Edinburgh - City road toll outer cordon will be axed
EDINBURGH city council will be forced to scale back its controversial congestion charge plans to the city centre only because of mounting opposition, transport officials predicted last night.
Bob McLellan said Edinburgh city council’s unexpected decision to exempt residents of rural west Edinburgh from having to pay to cross the outer cordon had caused major problems, but the local authority was unlikely to now overturn this.
Transport Initiative Edinburgh, a city council firm developing the charging plans, said it was premature to comment on any potential changes to the cordons because the public information programme was still under way.

 RSG: Sites: Edinburgh City Control
Edinburgh City Control was built in 1955 in a disused quarry at the end of Buckstone Drive, a cul-de-sac at Fairmilehead on the southern outskirts of the city.
Edinburgh City Council was however hard left wing and saw no need for a control centre so few modifications were made apart from the installation of new phone lines and although it remained available for use the council denied they had a control centre.
Edinburgh also had a sub-control located in the council yard at the rear of Barnton Quarry.

After Edinburgh City Council succeeded in setting a referendum on the possible introduction of a congestion charge to Edinburgh, a debate was held on the issue last Tuesday at Teviot as part of EUSA’s scheme to raise awareness on the issue.
She stated that an alternative, improved public transport system had to be in place before the scheme could go ahead, and even then the two cordon idea is one that would not have the desired effect.
In contrast Councillor Anderson stated that Edinburgh city has one of the best public transport systems in the UK and that abstention from this scheme while waiting for ‘better technology’ or a ‘better system’ would prove detrimental to the city in the long run.

Bins, Edinburgh City Council, Streetscape Board
If we delve into Edinburgh 99 then we find the fantastic assessment that ‘Edinburgh is conscious of the need to promote and conserve a distinctive design character for its public places’ and then the author states that ‘too may British city streets have acquired a bland uniformity through their catalogue design’.
But the bit that the City of Edinburgh Council always forgets is the requirement to use this street furniture in a uniform manner.
While studying the Edinburgh 99 document I came across the desire for an Architecture and Design Centre to be created in Edinburgh to provide ‘the UK’s first dedicated point of interface between the public and the design professionals.
