Given the problems that arose with the conduct of the 2003 and 2004 event, it would be irresponsible for the Geelong Speed Trials Organising Committee to stage another event until the associated issues are resolved.

Currently, public transport in Geelong is so bad that even those who would prefer to use it are forced to rely on their cars.
The City of Greater Geelong, in its 1999 Environmental Management Strategy, committed itself to "reduce the reliance on the motor vehicle through promoting greater use of … public transport." This commitment won't be fulfilled without a massive overhaul of public transport services, to make them work properly.
Particularly for trips within Geelong, most of the environmental benefits and reduced congestion from catching public transport is lost, when passengers have already driven most of the way into the city.

In January 2004, the City of Greater Geelong (South West of Melbourne) with assistance from Greg Sinclair from Rural and Turf, began the installation of the Rain Bird “Maxicom Central Control System” to an initial eight sites within the municipality with an additional 130 sites to be brought online over the upcoming years.
Along with the initial eight sites, the City of Greater Geelong also installed a Rain Bird weather station at the Anakie Road Depot located in North Geelong where the main Central Control Computer is located.
The City of Greater Geelong covers a very largearea (approx 600-700 km2) with many different soil types from sand to clay based and with careful ET based programming the council is now starting to see the massive savings in not only water but also labour costs that Maxicom can provide.

Andrew was chosen to fulfill the role, which, after becoming popular, went on to become a recognized position, representing the former City Of Geelong....officially being "sworn in", by the the then mayor, The Right Worshipful Frank De Stefano, in 1992.
(He represented Geelong and Australia, at the World Town Crier Championships, in Canada, in August 1999 with visits to Chester, England and Dublin, Ireland in 2004) In the year 2000 Andrew won the NATIONAL Championships in Ipswich, Queensland and also received the award for the best cry.

The coastal towns in the City of Greater Geelong would now be protected against inappropriate multi-level development under an interim “height trigger” control approved by the Planning Minister, John Thwaites.
Mr Thwaites said Amendment C10 to the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme introduced a requirement in residential areas that any construction or extension work on a dwelling higher than 7.5 metres above ground level must have a planning permit.
“The Greater Geelong City Council has requested this blanket control to safeguard the special character of the municipality, particularly its coastal towns such as Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove, until studies into height protection and urban character are completed,” Mr Thwaites said.

The Minister for Local Government, Mr Bob Cameron, has written to the CEO of the City of Greater Geelong, Mr Geoff Whitbread, seeking an explanation as to why the City of Greater Geelong administration mislead a parliamentary committee hearing in Geelong today.
“The City of Greater Geelong should be happy – they are one of the 29% of Victorian businesses who have had a decrease in their premium rate this year.”
Mr Cameron – who is also Workcover Minister - said the premium reduction for 29% of businesses had taken place despite a rise in the average premium rate from 1.9% of payroll to 2.18%.
