Mr Rawlings said the City of Whittlesea, one of the few councils in Victoria which administers such a survey, had set key benchmarks in community development and that the household survey was one of the major tools which has helped council to effectively meet the needs of its residents.
The yearly household survey which is distributed to a randomly selected group of 1,000 households is posted to the rural areas and delivered personally to around 900 households in the urban areas by a team of 25 trained researchers.

 Hotels commit to reduce waste, water use
Fifteen Melbourne hotels are expecting to cut the amount of rubbish sent to landfill from their premises by between 20-40% within the coming year as part of a program launched by the City of Melbourne.
The hotels are part of the City of Melbourne’s Savings in the City, an environmental program to help businesses to reduce waste and energy and water consumption.
City of Melbourne Lord Mayor John So said the hotels were now Waste Wise-certified and had been benchmarked against international environmental standards.

Carlton is distinctive among Melbourne's Victorian inner suburbs because of its geometrical regular street and sub-divisional pattern, and because of the homogeneity of much of its built form.
