Ciudad Juarez (also known simply as Juárez) (2000 population 1,142,354) is a city in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.
Ciudad Juarez was founded as El Paso del Norte ("the Northern Pass") in 1659 by Spanish explorers, seeking a route through the southern Rocky Mountains.
Ciudad Juarez again served as a provisional Mexican capital during the initial phase of the Mexican Revolution, when forces loyal to opposition candidate Francisco I. Madero, led by Pancho Villa, seized the city on 20 November 1910.

With respect to Ciudad Juárez, killings reported in the media range from a stepfather alleged to have beaten his two-year old stepdaughter to death to a son who stabbed his mother to death for refusing to pay his debts for him.
For example, while the authorities of Ciudad Juárez have classified a number of the killings as linked to narcotrafficking, at the national level the PGR indicated that it lacked sufficient probative elements or data to link those crimes to narcotrafficking, and was therefore unable to intervene in their investigation.

Her daughter Maria Elena's photo has been exploited and used by almost every media outlet that talks about the murders of Juarez, and yet, Daniel & Julia are one of the poorest parents of a murder victim that I ever met in Ciudad Juarez.
