Civilization, or Sid Meier's Civilization (which is the game's official name) is a turn-based strategy game created by Sid Meier for Microprose in 1991.
The game can be won either by destroying all other civilizations, lasting until the end of the modern era, 2050, or by becoming the first civilization to succeed at space colonization, in this case reaching the star system of Alpha Centauri.
The game pulled the introductory text from a text file located in the game's computer directory, and it was possible to alter the text file to manipulate the game's introduction (sometimes to comedic effect).

 Kulkmann´s Gamebox - Civilization
Civilization is a game in which the players take up the roles of leaders which manage the fate of their civilizations during four eras from Ancient Times over Medieval and the Industrial Era to Modern Times.
The main game then is played in turns (with alternating starting players), and each turn is divided into four phases in which each of the players is allowed to act.
However, Civilization also scores with the rest of its rules and the design of its playing components, and thus I would deem it to be the most advanced and best constructed boardgame in the class of "Build-and-Conquer" Games.

This is important: Most game industry analysts agree that Meier is one of the last game designers to write games solely because he himself would want to play them.
