Lower Cook Inlet Razor Clam Research   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
Recent strong year classes have grown to harvestable size resulting in smaller clams being dominant at Ninilchik and diggers are have shifting their efforts back to Clam Gulch since 1995 to take advantage of the smaller but more abundant clams typical of Clam Gulch.
The abundance of clams from 2.6 miles north of the Ninilchik River to 1 mile south of the river was estimated to be over 1.3 million clams 3 inches and greater in length in 2003.
Clams on a particular beach section are probably the progeny of clams from that and surrounding beaches so wide spread depletion of the clam stocks would have to occur before abundance would be impacted.
