The Clan MacLeod has survived down the centuries, surviving the extremes of feast and famine, the intermittent periods of warring with neighbouring clans, and the immense changes of social, political and economic life through which the Western Highlands and Islands have passed.
It was during this century however that Clan MacLeod, scattered by the events described above to the four corners of the earth, started once again regrouping around their Chief and the castle which throughout the centuries has been their focus.
On the 14th of August 1956 after the visit of Her Majesty the Queen delegates of Clan MacLeod Societies from every part of the English speaking world were entertained to a banquet in Dunvegan Castle to celebrate the coming-of-age of the present Chief.

The MacLeods followed the MacDonald Lord of the Isles in the Battle of Harlaw of 1411 but were able to steer a hazardous political path when James IV sought to break the power of the Lords of the Isles.
The MacLeods of Lewis, who had never fully accepted the commands of the MacLeods of Dunvegan were forced to on the death of Torquil MacLeod of Lewis in 1597.
In 1988, Torquil MacLeod of Raasay re-matriculated his arms to be recognised by the Lord Lyon as Macleod of the Lewes, Chief and Head of the Baronial House under the MacLeod of MacLeod.

Canada-wide support is now being given to a Clan MacLeod Clan Centre to be established near Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye, Scotland.
Every four years Clan Parliament is held at Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye.

From its formation in 1950 until 1963 the Clan MacLeod Pipe Band was known as the Mosman Pipe Band and was associated with the Mosman Scottish Association.
In 1954 the (late) Bruce MacLeod had formed the Clan MacLeod Society in NSW, preparing for the first visit of the Clan Chief.
