Its north east corner is one mile (1.6 km) due south of the Palace of Westminster; the north west corner is demarcated by the Wandsworth Bridge, and Battersea tapers south to a point roughly three miles (5 km) from the north east corner and two miles (3 km) from the north west.
Industry in the area was concentrated to the north west just outside the Battersea-Wandsworth boundary, at the confluence of the River Thames, and the River Wandle which gave rise to the village of Wandsworth.
An interchange station was built in 1863 towards the north west of the area, at a junction of the railway.

The Railway is now my local having just moved to Clapham North and although the food is suprisingly tasty though a bit leftfield for my western tastes, the service is atrocious, moody, incompetent, slow, disinterested, self absorbed.
The pub mentioned in the Clapham Old Town with the sailor dummy atop it is the Prince of Wales and the govenor of the establishment is a colourful local character by the name of Alex who has been there since the times before Clapham was trendy.
The Circle bar, in between Clapham North and Stockwell on the corner of Union Rd. It may be a bit poncy but it's my local and they do good food.

Apart from Chancery Lane (and perhaps one entrance at Clapham North) where the entrances were reconstructed during it's conversion into a protected underground trunk exchange all the 'pillbox' entrances remain intact although some of them have been somewhat altered by later use'.
There is an open shaft a few yards to the north surrounded by corrugated iron and a metal beam for taking a pulley to lower large or heavy items into the tunnels.

Given the leather furnishings of the relaunched Clapham North, the Falcon's bare floors and wooden chairs suddenly have a feel of last season to them.
Allied to the fact that the food here is Thai (rather than the latest Gastro trends) and you could make a case for this being a pub out of step with changing bar trends.
Real ale fans won't be beating a path to its front door but otherwise this one seems a decent enough fixture on the Clapham drinking scene.

Ingleborough Hall began its life in 1807 as an architects drawing, with final completion of the main buildings, stables, tunnels and nearby lake accomplished by 1841.
The London based Farrer family, owners of the vast Ingleborough Estate, used the Hall originally as a shooting lodge or country house until they moved north to Clapham in the early 1930's.
During the Second World War the Hall became home to evacuated prep school children from Broadstairs in Kent and in 1952 it was sold to the old West Riding of Yorkshire to be run as a residential school.
