Clarence 13X, born Clarence Smith (February 22, 1928–1969) in Danville, Virginia is considered the founder of The Nation of Gods and Earths, and is referred to by members of that group as "Allah", or "The Father."
(The 13X indicates that he would have been the 13th person named Clarence to join that temple.) Clarence would be well-known there for his martial-arts skills, and speaking ability, leading him to become a member of the Fruit of Islam and a student minister.
Clarence 13X was assassinated in Harlem in 1969.

By all accounts, Clarence 13X Smith was an extremely pragmatic man and from his experience with the justice system he probably knew the authorities were trying to subdue his organization.
While the subject of the FBI railroading Clarence 13X is mostly a matter of speculation, the text of the FBI files leaves little doubt that a major part of the Bureau's master plan involved keeping the Five Percenters out of the public eye.
Assuming the Clarence 13X files concerning his murder are some sort of cover-up, perhaps the FBI in 1969 already had a sense of what Minister Farakhan later said.
