  Clarence Valley, New South Wales - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Clarence Valley is a region and Local Government Area (LGA) in northern New South Wales.
The region includes the coastal plain and lower valleys of the Clarence River and Nymbodia River.
The local government area, Clarence Valley Council, was formed in February, 2004 by the amalgamation of the LGAs of Grafton City and Maclean Shire, and parts of Copmanhurst, Pristine Waters and Richmond Valley LGAs.

 Clarence Valley Floodplain Services
Clarence Valley Floodplain Services (formerly Clarence River County Council) was constituted in 1959 as a flood mitigation authority.
It is responsible for floodplain management and flood mitigation infrastructure on the Clarence floodplain, the largest coastal catchment in NSW.
Major flood mitigation works were carried out in the valley during the 1960’s and 1970’s; with the majority of flood mitigation works being constructed during this period.

 Clarence Valley emu road toll up by one
The recent death of one of the Clarence Valley's endangered coastal emus has the NPWS asking drivers to be mindful of these large flightless birds when using our local roads.
NPWS Clarence Ranger Andrew Horton said in the latest incident a male emu died after being struck by a vehicle last Friday (19/03) on the Sandon Road near Brooms Head.
Mr Horton said the Clarence Valley's coastal emu population is estimated to be less than 100 individuals and Yuraygir National Park and surrounding areas are the stronghold for this population.

The Australian College of Holistic Nurses Inc. (ACHN) Clarence Valley Retreat and Education Centre was officially endorsed and subsequently sponsored by the ACHN National Management Committee in March 2002.
This project was the initiative of ACHN members (Louise Coghill, Leonie Valuntas-Achilles and Lyn Maunsell) of the Clarence Valley of Northern New South Wales, who as an ACHN Sub-Committee manage the fundraising for the Clarence Valley Retreat and Education Centre.
Clarence Valley Retreat and Education Centre, in keeping with the ACHN Inc. Constitution, will be a Non-Profit Institution.

Through the Clarence Floodplain Project Steering Committee, the Council leads a team of landholders, fishers and government agencies who are working together to implement best practice in floodgate and infrastructure management to improve water quality, fish passage and habitat, wildlife habitat, wetland health and catchment systems while maintaining flood protection and productive farms.
Clarence Floodplain Project activities are resourced by the CRCC, and the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources floodplain management program, which has assisted with state and federal funding to provide quality flood protection and ongoing reviews of environmental performance.
As a result, the Clarence coastal floodplain is one of the first locations where a comprehensive approach to improved drainage management for an entire major estuary is being implemented in Australia.

The Clarence Environment Centre came into being because of a push by Harris - Daishowa and the then State government to build a pulp mill on the Clarence River.
The bat in the sky,represents the two species of fruit bats that are common to the Clarence Valley - the grey headed flying fox and the little red flying fox.
The representation of branches, leaves and seed pods on the upper portion of the logo symbolises the forest trees which grow throughout the Clarence valley and in the mountains beyond.

Every day cars speed across the Clarence River Bridge, and most take little notice of the valley and the roads leading inland, but that valley has been divided up for sheep farming since 1860 and there farming families led lives very different from the city or coastal dwellers.
There was a radar station and a camp of air force staff at Clarence during the war which the women said gave the family a sense of security at that time.
The inland station on the north bank of the Clarence is known as The Bluff.

Grafton/Lower Clarence Valley Due to the population growth, the existing water supply scheme servicing the Grafton area and the Lower Clarence valley is nearing the limit of its capacity to meet peak demands during dry weather.
Up-grade of the water supply schemes for the Grafton, Lower Clarence valley and Coffs Harbour areas is required to ensure a secure supply for at least the next 25 years.

 Regional Water Supply Project summary
The RWSP is development-driven and involves diversion of water from the Nymboida River (the last stronghold of the endangered Eastern Freshwater Cod, once prevalent throughout the Clarence River system) to coastal areas, and construction of a large dam in one of the most significant biodiversity 'hot spots' on the NSW north coast.
This is the Clarence Valley Council which stands to gain most out of exploiting the Nymboida River and, together with CHCC, is one of only two councils to which Development Applications must be made for certain works associated with the RWSP (i.e.
Public anger in the lower Clarence Valley as the only benefit to them is in the dam component of the RWSP.
