Located in the county of Middlesex, it is bordered by Manchester on the west, Saint Catherine in the east, and in the north by Saint Ann.
On the same peninsula are Jackson Bay beach, the flood-prone community of Portland Cottage, and two different locations both called Rocky Point, a residential community on the western side of the peninsula, and a port used primarily for the export of alumina on the eastern side of the peninsula.
Clarendon is the location of the world renowned Milk River Bath, a mineral spa famous for the therapeutic value of its waters.

THE CLARENDON Parish Council has declared more than 90 per cent of the buildings designated as hurricane shelters in Clarendon ready and in good condition.
Building officer Eric Rochester told the Parish Disaster Committee meeting at the Council's chambers recently that approximately 50 shelters had been inspected and most were declared ready for the June 1 to November 30 hurricane season.
Plans were also made at the meeting to have several critical drains properly cleaned in flood prone communities in central and southwestern Clarendon.

Clarendon's Parish Manager in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Delroy Palmer noted that this represented 70 more persons than the 5,454 persons who benefitted under the Health Insurance Scheme as at March 15, 2004.
He explained further that the rise in the number of persons benefiting was as a result of an increase in the number of pensioners in the parish.

The Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) is in the process of assessing agricultural losses in the parish of Clarendon as a result of Hurricane Ivan.
Percival Shaw, RADA Parish Manager for Clarendon, told JIS News that the process started on Monday (September 27), with assistance from staff from the Office of National Reconstruction (ONR).
"We are in the process of doing the assessment and verification of damage to farmers in Clarendon and we expect that after verification, we will be submitting the forms to the relevant body for processing of agricultural coupons, which will be distributed to the farmers," he informed.

The terms being proposed by the Jamaican government include securing a substantial ownership of the plant, a guarantee that the plant will be kept at unusual circumstances, and an assurance that Alcoa will purchase Jamaican bauxite for use in its United States plants, a practice it ceased doing several years ago.
An Alcoa spokesman confirmed the company has entered into discussions with the Jamaica government to "explore possibilities of further enhancing the partnerships in bauxite mining and refining that already exist between the country and the company." He declined further comment.
Alcoa idled its Clarendon refinery in early 1985 due to poor markets but later restarted it at the request of the Jamaican government, which leases the facility.
