Clark County is a county located in the state of Missouri.
The county was organized in 1836 and named after William Clark, leader of the Lewis and Clark expedition and later a Governor of Missouri Territory.
In the county the population is spread out with 25.00% under the age of 18, 7.80% from 18 to 24, 25.50% from 25 to 44, 25.00% from 45 to 64, and 16.70% who are 65 years of age or older.

Clark had prepared this place by planting six Sequoia trees, which he had brought from the Mariposa grove, which he discovered in 1857 and by digging a well from which he watered them.
Clark, just before starting for California in 1850, was visiting at the McCoy home in Missouri when Leo was born and named him for Leo Lewis of Kentucky, brother of his grandmother.
Clark and his son and daughter, Galen Alonzo and Elvira Missouri, who were then with their father, Galen C. and Leo L. McCoy went to San Francisco, where they remained for a few weeks.

 UED6022 Missouri Courthouses: Clark County, MU Extension
Joseph McCoy served as treasurer of Clark County, 1837-40, and apparently was the same Joseph McCoy who provided the plan for the first courthouse October 11, 1837.
On August 6, 1847, the county seat moved to Alexandria, and Waterloo citizens converted the courthouse for use as a church and school.
The floor of the courtroom was to be "deafened with sawdust on mortar." The shingle roof was to be laid in fireproof composition paint.

Clark County was set apart February 3, 1801, by William Henry Harrison, then Governor of the Territory of Indiana.
It is named for General George Rogers Clark who is remembered for his 1778 expedition into the Northwest Territory and was a hero of the Revolutionary War.
Twenty four years before the County Seat was transferred to Jeffersonville, in 1849, Charlestown contained a Courthouse, Presbyterian County Seminary and Female High School, churches for the Episcopal and Reformed Methodists as well as Baptists and Presbyterians, about 200 dwelling houses and a population of 1,200.

 A Directory of Towns, Villages, and Hamlets of Missouri
Prior to the organization of Clark County, the territory now comprising it consisted of the civil townships of Jefferson, Des Moines and Jackson, all of which were attached to and formed a part of Lewis County.
The county was organized in accordance with an act of the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, entitled "an act to organize the County of Clark," approved December 16, 1836.
On the 7th day of July, 1847, a petition was presented to the county court, praying for the removal of the county seat from Waterloo to Alexandria, and on the 5th day of the following month, a remonstrance against the petition, and also a motion to dismiss it was filed.

Adam Mase was born in Kentucky in June 1798 and moved to Pike County, Missouri, in 1819, probably to Frankford in Peno Township; he worked in the tanning business most of his life.
The Pike County men, refusing to recognize the election of a Ralls County man as superior officer, were sent north to Clark County, separated by sixty-five miles from the Ralls County volunteers.
He was elected a representative for Pike County to the Missouri General Assembly in 1834, and served on Democratic Party committees in Pike County, representing Peno Township, in 1840 and 1848.

In July 1861, Bishop was authorized to recruit and command a battalion of cavalry in northeast Missouri.
Plagued by supply and other administrative difficulties, political intrigue within the battalion, and conflict with state authorities, Colonel Bishop was brought before a court martial in February 1862, and charged with falsifying a muster roll, neglect of duty, conduct unbecoming an officer, and incompetency.
The Bishop Papers document the personal and professional life of a prominent citizen of Clark County, Missouri, and to a lesser extent his family, during the Civil War and shortly thereafter.

On Apr 5 1836, "James L. Henshaw of Berkley [sic] County, Virginia" purchased three 80-acre parcels of land in Noble County, Indiana.
James was also shown in the 1850 census, Butte County, California, living next door to his brother Washington.
Brother Washington was also shown in Yuba County in 1850, so it appears that they were enumerated twice (in California, in addition to being enumerated in Missouri), once in Butte County and again in Yuba County.
