The Classic Malts of Scotland is a selection of six single malt whiskies, chosen by United Distillers and Vinters (UDV) to represent the best of the their products representing the major whisky producing regions of Scotland.
All six of the Classic Malts have released limited edition "Distiller's editions", which are finished in special casks selected by the master distiller at each distillery.
Dalwhinnie's are finished in Oloroso casks, Glenkinchie in Amontillado, Cragganmore in Port, Oban in Montilla, Talisker in amoroso sherry, and Lagavulin in Pedro-Ximenez sherry.

The portfolio in question is titled "Classic Malts of Scotland," but it came about for anything but classic reasons.
The 16-year-old Lagavulin (around $52) is as peaty and smoky as anyone could ask, but the 15-year-old malt from Dalwhinnie ($40) has a flowery, honeyed aroma and is as subtle and gentle on the tongue as a fine old brandy.
The three bottles bearing the label of the Isle of Skye's Talisker--10, 20, and 25 years old, respectively--are as different as three stalwart sons got by different fathers on a single mother.

This is the annual Classic Malts cruise, which set sail from Oban on Sunday.
So after tasting the Oban Malt the sailors head for the Isle of Skye for some Talisker and then complete their journey with a dram of Lagavulin on Islay.

The malt comes in a traditional 19th century-style blue glass flask with fresh, modern labelling with scripted lettering, a salmon emblem and back-label detail on the Glen Ord distillery giving it strong visual presence.
The distillery’s water comes from a vigorous mountain stream, the White Burn, fed by two mountain lochs - the Loch of the Peats and the Loch of the Birds, the former fed by springs, the latter by rainwater: water from heaven and water from earth, it is said locally.
The newer members of the Classic Malts Selection will also be extended into newer markets where the prospects for strong growth in single malts are well recognised.
