Classic cycle races - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Classic cycle races are the most prestigious one-day professional cycling road races in Europe.
From 2005, the Classics have formed part of the UCI ProTour run by the Union Cycliste Internationale.
Tour of Flanders ( Belgium) – The Ronde van Vlaanderen, the first of the 'Spring Classics', is normally raced in early April.

Bordeaux-Paris - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Bordeaux-Paris professional cycle race was one of mainland Europe's Classic cycle races, and the longest in the professional calendar, covering a distance of approximately 560 kilometres (350 miles) - more than twice the distance of most single day races.
From 1946 to 1985, more than half the race distance was paced, the Dernys being introduced at, for example, Poitiers or Chatellerault, roughly half-way through the race.
Fields began to dwindle and the last motor-paced version was held in 1985; three non-paced versions were held from 1986 but the 1988 proved to be the last running of the event as a professional cycle race.

 Classic - Enpsychlopedia
Classic may also be used to refer to revered sporting events, such as horse races or one-day cycle races.
Classic is a feature of Apple 's Mac OS X which allows it to run applications which have not been upgraded to run natively on the new version, and by extension is used to refer to the previous versions of the Mac OS and their application environment, formerly known simply as 'Toolbox'.
A classic is an item that has become a ubiquitous and unique symbol or icon of a time gone by, mainly because of its inherent quality or its representative status.

 Manx Grand Prix Races
The Classic races were introduced in 1983 with John Goodall winning the Senior Classic, Paul Barrett the Junior Classic and Richard Fitzsimmons the Lightweight Classic, but the Junior Newcomers race looked like a who's who of future TT stars with Robert Dunlop winning from Steve Hislop and Ian Lougher.
Bob Heath was to win a Classic Senior in 1990, and start a run which saw him win at least one Classic Race at the MGP throughout the 90's, and there were also victories for Lee Pullan and Mick Lofthouse in the Newcomers races.
The Lightweight race was re-introduced in 1964 and Gordon Keith won at 86.19mph.Selwyn Griffiths, father of current TT star Jason Griffiths won the Senior and David Williams the Junior races.

www.cyclingnews.com presents the 1999 Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic
The key features of the race are a 17 km climb after the 65 km mark, that rises some 1000 meters over the Gibraltar Range, followed by a grinding uphill battle to Glenn Innes (160 km), often into a nasty head/crosswind.
The weather did not play a large role in the race outcome this year, with only a slight headwind over the range which was not strong enough to blow the pack apart.
Gerrans provided another landmark for the race, as the youngest rider to participate - the 19 year old is coached by Australian cycling legend Phil Anderson and surely has a bright future ahead of him.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Egypt
Isis, typified by Sirius, her star, was believed to bring with the inundation a promise of plenty for the new year; this takes us back to the first centuries of the fifth millennium, when the summer solstice, which precedes by a few days only the inundation, actually coincided with the heliacal rising of Sirius.
The cycle of the Sothic periods has been established in different ways by various scholars, with slight variations in the years of beginning of the several periods (see Ginzel, "Handbuch der mathematischen und technischen Chronologie", 187 sqq.).
In some cases the second element was a mere grammatical duplicate of the first, as Ament, wife of Amen (Amon), and was considered as one with it; it was then natural to identify the son with his parents, and so arose the concept of one god in three forms.

EGCC - 2005 Menzies Classic Cycle Race
The race commenced in 1928, following a discussion at a club meeting concerning the lack of distance races on the Goldfields, Messrs J Richards, JC Walsh, Chas Egan along with a small committee set about organising a long distance event.
From its inauguration in 1928 until 1932 the race was known as the Menzies–Kalgoorlie Road Race, but two days before the race of that year Charlie Egan, the well-liked and highly respected secretary of the club, tragically died, and all riders in the race that year wore black armbands as a token of repect.
It was decided later that the race of which Chas Egan was one of the originators, should in future be known as the “Chas Egan Memorial Race”.

 The Beverley Cycle Classic
For many years the record for the race, by using a fixed wheel was held by A. Kaiser (5hrs 58mins 33secs) but in the 1929 event A.E. (Andy) Joss, the only fixed wheel competitor in the race, lowered the time to 5hrs 24mins 26secs.
The slowest race was in 1905, when C. Howard starting off 21minutes won in 8hours 50minutes 30seconds.

Classic Erom Part 3: Character Races
Elves not only live a long time compared to humans, but they do not age noticeably--at least not noticeably to other races; other Elves will be able to estimate the approximate age of other Elves with as much chance of being correct as a human has of estimating the age of another human.
Take the races as packages of advantages, disadvantages, and sometimes skills.
GURPS is based on a human average, but other races can be designed and played.

RPGnet: The Inside Scoop on Gaming
Neanderthals - Several people pointed out in response to my column on orcs that some modern scientists have called into question the classical theories about evolution and neanderthals.
And the RPG race archetypes (elf, hobbit, dwarf, orc, human) represent different sides of human nature itself, our attempts to be more than we are, and our recognition of how all too often we can be so much less than we want to be.
Within the twelve column cycle I set up for myself, there was room for discussion of ten main archetypes.

The Commonwealth Bank Cycle Classic 1999
In the finish, van Heeswijk easily outclassed Murn to take his first stage win in this year's event, and his 9th in all Bank Races.
The race was predictably very fast, with riders always trying to improve their position or attack at numerous intervals.
After the finish, the always ebullient Max said that he tried several times this morning (in stage 2) to get away but in vain, due to the Mapei jersey he was wearing.

 Sean Kelly (cyclist) - Enpsychlopedia
A natural sprinter, Kelly won numerous Classic cycle races and stages of the Grand Tours.
While some sprinters prefer to remain sheltered in the peloton until the final few hundred metres of a race, Kelly was capable of instigating breaks and could climb reasonably well.
He also won the Paris-Nice stage race every year from 1982 to 1988, and topped the inaugural UCI World Cup rankings.

 The Reincarnation FAQ
The Buddhist view of the cycle of rebirth is much the same as the Yogic view - rebirth is the curse of the individual who must keep returning to earth to struggle through life, learning lessons and paying back their karmic debt.
His guru's guru, Lahiri Mahasaya, was said to have finally broken out of the cycle of rebirth by breaking free of the bonds of karma (see chapter 34).
His view of the purpose of the soul was to gain release from the cycle of incarnations through purification.
