Claudia Cardinale   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Emerging in the wake of Sophia Loren's international success, Claudia Cardinale was originally touted as Italy's answer to Brigitte Bardot; while never attaining a measure of global stardom comparable to either performer, she nevertheless proved herself a highly capable actress, working with many of the most renowned filmmakers in world cinema.
Born in Tunisia on April 15, 1938, Cardinale first attracted attention in 1957 after winning the "Most Beautiful Girl in Tunisia" contest; her prize was a trip to the Venice Film Festival, inspiring her to pursue a career in acting.
Cardinale continued dividing her time between Hollywood and Europe for the remainder of the decade, appearing in diverse projects ranging from the 1965 Visconti war drama Vaghe Stelle dell'Orsa to the 1966 Richard Brooks Western The Professionals.

The more common sleeve has only three pictures on this gatefold, two photos having been deleted: the one that appears to be Dylan wearing a wig and biting his lip; and one of a young woman leaning over and speaking in to Bob's ear.
She was probably responsible for the picture's removal, I would guess, because she may not have given permission for it to be used.
Claudia was voted the Most Beautiful Girl in Tunisia, 1957.

We're delighted tonight that Claudia Cardinale was able to accept our invitation to visit and talk to Adrian afterwards.
And they took me into a theatre, and I saw this scratchy, fl and white duke with no sound and a terrible track and all this camera noise of a movie that lasted three and a half hours at that time or something, and everybody was speaking a different language.
Claudia, you know, this beautiful Claudia Cardinale, was speaking Italian sometimes, sometimes a little bit of English.

 Claudia Cardinale Picture Galleries
A prolific screen player, Cardinale starred or costarred in dozens of films-including some of the most distinguished Italian productions of the 1960s, such as Rocco and His Brothers (1960), The Leopard, 8 (both 1963), Cartouche (1964), and, after her American sojourn, Once Upon a Time in the West (1968).
Cardinale never mastered the English language to the degree that Loren did, which may account for her inability to make the same impression on U.S. audiences.
Unlike many European sexpots of the 1960s, Cardinale remained active throughout the 1970s and 1980s, evolving gracefully into character roles.

Paris, March 7 {No.2000-18} - The actress Claudia Cardinale was named UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador by the Organization's Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura "in recognition of her commitment in favour of UNESCO's programmes dedicated to improving the lives of women and young girls through education, as well as the promotion and affirmation of their rights."
He declared that UNESCO was one of those international organisations which are "little known, even little loved by the media and public opinion" because their action takes place in the medium or long term and does not have an immediate or spectacular impact on daily life.
During her career, which began in the 1960s with films such as Rocco and His Brothers, 81/2, and The Leopard, Ms Cardinale has won many awards, including the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival (1963); the Golden Shell of the Festival of San Sebastian (1967); and the Golden Lion of the Venice Festival (1994).
