i thought johnson did a really good job with her emma chapter--most things in this chapter made sense and weren't a huge leap.
here's emma, openly saying to knightley, "look, you are not my first priority here, so into the backseat, pal." secondly, i don't think claudia showed knightley and emma to be as completely equal as austen wrote them to be.
claudia says knightley is just as 'imaginizing' as emma, but she also points to his reprimands as if they were almost condescending, as if made by an authority figure.
