Claudin de Sermisy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sermisy was most likely born either in Picardy, Burgundy, or Île-de-France, based on the similarity of his surname to place names there.
Sermisy wrote one of the only polyphonic settings of the Passion found in French music of the period; the musical setting is simple, compared to his masses and motets, and he strove to make the words clearly understandable.
Sermisy's music was transcribed numerous times for instruments, including viols and lute as well as organ and other keyboard instruments, by performers from Italy, Germany, and Poland in addition to France.

In 1533, Claudin was made a canon of the Sainte Chapelle (where he had served briefly in 1508), thus being assured a substantial salarya canon there in 1533, and finally attaining the rank of choirmaster in 1547.
Claudin (as he is usually known) published three books of motets, eleven Masses and a Passion, but is best known for the 160 or so chansons which came out in many printed anthologies, including Attaingnant's first collection of 1528 where he is represented by no fewer than seventeen pieces of the thirty-one.
Claudin's chansons support the claim that many features of the French chanson, which was markedly to influence the Italian instrumental canzona (called alla francese), were themselves partly derived from the Italian popolaresca lirica.

Pierre Certon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He seems to have helped organize many grand entertainments, and doubtless composed many of his works for them.
Most likely he was a close friend of the more famous composer Claudin de Sermisy, as evidenced by his dedications, notes, and the poignant lament he wrote for his death in 1562 which was closely modeled on the similar work by Josquin for the death of Johannes Ockeghem.
Certon wrote eight masses which survive, motets, psalm settings, "chansons spirituelles" (chansons with religious texts, related to the Italian "madrigali spirituali"), and numerous secular chansons.

These multiple revolutions spread over Europe in the next several decades, beginning in Germany and then moving to Spain, France and England somewhat later, demarcating the beginning of what we now know as the Baroque musical era.
Music with essentially Renaissance characteristics continued to be composed, particularly in England, but also in Spain, Portugal, and France, for the first few decades of the 17th century (see English Madrigal School, air de cour).
In addition, many composers observed a division in their own works between a prima prattica (music in the Renaissance polyphonic style) and a seconda prattica (music in the new style) during the first part of the 17th century.
