	Los Jaivas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Parra brothers met Mario Mutis and Gato Alquinta in their childhood and they started to play music for fun.
		The former name of the band was High-bass, but after a while they entered a new phase, more hippie and very South-Americanist, so they decided to change the name to Jaivas (which sounds similar to the word Jaibas, Spanish for crabs).
		The band lived in Argentina, after the military government took over in Chile, until 1977, then went to France.

		Which is exactly what the two keyboard players, Eduardo and Claudio Parra, are to Juanita, who replaced her father, their brother, Gabriel, as the group's drummer after he tragically died in a car crash in Peru in 1982.
		There is obviously great communication between the group, which Claudio Parra attributes to them living all together with their families in one huge house, first in Argentina when they left Chile in 1973, and then for the following 10 years in France.

		Obras de Violeta Parra is a work from their prime period in the early '80s, three years after their most revered work, the landmark Alturas de Macchu Picchu.
		In fact, the second half of the album drags a bit in comparison to the fantastic opening four tracks: still, aside from "El Gavilán," all of the songs are good if not great.
		Faithful fans of Alturas de Macchu Picchu, of which there are many, should no doubt make Obras de Violeta Parra their next stop in the oeuvre of Los Jaivas.
