Clay Regazzoni (born Gianclaudio Regazzoni, September 5, 1939 in Lugano, Switzerland) is a former Swiss Formula One racing car driver.
Regazzoni and Lauda, together with team manager Luca Cordero di Montezemolo and technical director Mauro Forghieri, formed a very successful partnership that generated 15 wins, two constructors titles, and one drivers championship (Lauda in 1975).
Regazzoni paid him back by giving the team its maiden win at Silverstone, but he was replaced by Carlos Reutemann at the end of the season.

Clay finished fourth on his F1 debut, won the Italian GP later in the season and ended the year third in the World Championship.
Lauda became the team leader but Regazzoni was never far behind and won the German GP that year and followed up in 1975 with wins in the non-championship Swiss GP at Dijon and the Italian GP.
Clay was past his best and in 1980 Williams dropped him to make way for Reutemann and he went back to Ensign, which was undergoing a revival thanks to Unipart money.

Over at Ferrari, reigning World Champion Niki Lauda and Clay Regazzoni stayed with the team, and the new car, the 312T2, a development of the all conquering 1975 car, looked like the car to beat in the new season.
Clay Regazzoni won from Lauda, while Hunt and Depailler crashed into each other.
McLaren protested that Regazzoni shouldn't have been allowed to restart either, and the matter was sent to the FIA to be sorted out.
