  What is Claymation?
Claymation is the generalized term for clay animation, a form of stop animation using clay.
Claymation involves using objects or characters sculpted from clay or other moldable material, and then taking a series of still pictures that are replayed in rapid succession to create the illusion of movement.
Claymation was one of the first forms of 3-dimensional animation, opening up the world to animation assisted by computer generated imagery (CGI).

A subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) aspect of claymation (and any stop motion) is that each frame is hand-animated.
I seem to remember a paper/video from SIGGRAPH (sometime between 1998-2000) which appeared to be a traditional claymation film (a knight going through a forest and down a river, or something like that), but the "SIGGRAPH" part of it was that it was all CG (I think).
Also in tying it all together you would need to update all the model positions at the same time otherwise one model may be updated while another one is staying still and that would take away from the "claymation animator moving everything to it's correct position and snapping the next frame's picture" feel.

The dirty little secret about Claymation is that the animators can sometimes spend more time cleaning up the clay than moving the characters from frame to frame.
If you look at old Claymation you'll notice that a lot of times bright light colors are avoided, since they show dirt and grime more than something like say, the California Raisin purple.
Of course the biggest secret in Claymation is to not use clay at all.

A claymation is created by creating a scene/diorama of a given topic and taking twenty to thirty pictures using a piece of hardware called the Connectix Quick Cam.
For the claymation you need to have the main characters made out of plasticine.
Once you have your background, and all the plasticine characters for your claymation you now are ready to take pictures using the Connectix Quickcam.

 Big Bluebird Claymation — Birdhouse Network
The Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) at Caldwell County Elementary School (CCES) located in Western Kentucky is a group of twenty-five dedicated students grades 3 through 5 interested in the application of technology for the purpose of community service and creating a better world.
This year, the students were fortunate enough to have cameras inside some of the boxes and witness Eastern Bluebirds and Carolina build nests, lay eggs, and raise their young.
