Clayton Manness, the Manitoba organizer, tried to imply her comments were taken out of context, but there was a videotape of her comments.
Manness did not seem concerned that these comments were racist and inappropriate, but that the party might lose votes because they were "perceived" as inappropriate.
It was an outrageous attack on the democratic process, not to mention a full frontal attack on the character of a man, in an blatant attempt to cast doubt on his integrity, honesty, and commitment, simply because of his religious beliefs.

Not surprisingly, Cerilli never made it to the big leagues -- cabinet -- when her party finally won government in 1999.
