Film Projection Guidelines - National Film Preservation Board (Library of Congress)
Because film and sprocket tooth combinations tear when the tension exceeds the uppermost limit of 15 pound feet (lb-ft), the tension of all film handling equipment should be far below this level.
To measure the tension necessary to move the film through the projector gate, place a short length of normal print material in the projector gate and close the gate.
Film prints should be shipped with an instruction sheet listing the correct aspect ratio, projection speed for silent films, special handling requirements, and name of the person to call should questions arise about the print.

Its ability to clean film is dependant upon an accompaning roller and dry web cloth accessory attached to the projector.
It evaporates very fast and does an excellent cleaning job, but use it in a well ventilated area and wear rubber gloves as it is very drying to the skin.
If the film was not very dirty to begin with, it is advisable not to use the straight chemical at all, but rather use a full coat cleaner/lubrication solution applied in the same manner as described previously.

OFFOFFOFF film review CLEAN French movie by Olivier Assayas with Maggie Cheung, Mary Moulds, Nick Nolte, Béatrice ...
Olivier Assayas' "Clean" opened the film festival not only as a nod to honoree and jurist Maggie Cheung, but as an embodiment of this spirit of diversity.
"Clean" was written specifically for Cheung, and it's no surprise that her performance, and the acting in general, are the film's greatest strength.
Much of the thrill in watching Cheung work is in the way she effortlessly moves from setting to setting, from relationship to relationship, from language to language with such transparency and ease.

The temptation to pick up the needle again is always present, but she dedicates herself to staying clean largely because that's the only way she'll be able to reunite with her young son, Jay, who is currently being looked after by Lee's parents.
One of the things that distinguishes "Clean" from a lot of films about recovering addicts (particularly of the made-for-TV variety) is the absence of big dramatic moments where the actors scream at each other, shake their fists at the heavens and, in general, chew the scenery.
The film ends on a perfect note of melancholy happiness–Emily may not have entirely beaten her demons, but for now she's successfully staying a step ahead of them, one day at a time.

A controversial sensation on the film festival circuit when released in 1994, this riveting first feature (filmed over a two-year period on a meager budget of $60,000) is perhaps the first film to authentically convey the subjective experience of schizophrenia.
Film critic Michael Atkinson contributes an audio-visual essay titled "A Subjective Assault," focusing specifically on Kerrigan's highly effective use of sound to convey the symptoms and disorienting reality of schizophrenia, and how this innovative soundtrack plays into the film's overall audio-visual strategy.
Clean, Shaven has a plot, barely (running time is a fleeting 80 minutes), centering on two parallel quests: Peter's search for someone who may or may not be his daughter and a police detective searching for Peter in connection with a murdered girl.

Some have called Clean a cold film and it's hard to disagree, considering how much of the melodrama of the drug-recovery movie it avoids, but that should be considered a compliment.
With Clean, Assayas is observing the human condition through Emily, not commenting on it or manipulating it.
Clean is one of the best screenplays and films of the year to date and, especially after taking two years to get to the U.S., may be hard for you to find in theaters (it already played in New York and LA and opens today in Chicago).

Clean review - movie review of the Olivier Assayas film starring Maggie Cheung
Assayas opens his film with shots of industrial sites in Canada, a metaphor for the milieu of rock music that he depicts.
Whether it's the group Metrics and their singer, all feline grace, or even Tricky, in full hypnotic and feverish trance, his camera vibrates to the tempo of the electrifying music of these artists.
In this, the film is radically detached from Hollywood cinema and its procession of clearance sale emotions.

Clean, Shaven Film Review - Time Out Film
Kerrigan's feature debut is an edgy, engrossing, intelligent study of schizophrenia, formulated as an impressionistically fragmented variation of the hunter/hunted road thriller.
At any rate, he sets off across a bleak landscape, visiting his far-from-welcoming mother and searching for the daughter whose company he's been denied; meanwhile, a detective is on his trail, checking out murder locations and contacting Winter's estranged wife for clues as to his likely whereabouts and intentions.
What lifts the film out of the rut is its use of expressionistic sound design (there's little dialogue, let alone plot) and occasionally disturbing images to reveal Winter's wretched, hallucinatory perceptions of the world around him; few movie portraits of the paranoid experience have been so detailed or, for that matter, so harrowing.

Screen/Society--Women in the Americas film series--"Clean"
Beginning in Canada, the film follows Emily (Maggie Cheung), whose relationship with her rock star boyfriend Lee seems to be held together only by their shared heroin dependence.
Cheung, who has starred in such diverse films as Wong Kar-wai's romantic In the Mood for Love, Zhang Yimou's martial arts epic Hero, and Assayas's own Irma Vep, was named Best Actress at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival for her mesmerizing portrayal of Emily, an ambitious woman lost in a haze of drugs and desire.
Olivier Assayas's films have in common an air of authenticity and a determinedly realistic approach, which in the case of "Clean" serves the material well.

The theory behind Partical Transfer Rollers (PTR's) is that they use a sticky surface to remove dirt and debris from the film as it runs, much like those cat hair rollers that you use to remove cat and dog hair from all of your clothes.
Here's how you use the PTR Film Cleaning System: First, take clean PTR rollers and mount them to the projector/platter of the film you desire to clean.
So even if they actually did clean the film, using PTR's in the booth is as impractical as licking each film clean with your tongue.
