An Analysis of Variables Affecting the Clearance of Homicides
Analysis of clearance rates from 1980 through 1994 shows that clearance rates in cities have remained very stable: those cities that are high in total clearance and high in homicide rates have remained consistently so throughout this period, as have cities which are high-low, low-high, and low-low.
For example, the homicide clearance rate is determined by dividing the number of homicides reported in a year by the number of arrests made for those homicides.
This study addresses the issue of clearance rates with the expectation that by understanding what accounts for cities having high clearance rates for homicide, we will be able to prescribe changes that other departments could use to improve their rate of homicide clearance.

 MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia: Creatinine clearance
The creatinine clearance test compares the level of creatinine in urine with the creatinine level in the blood, usually based on measurements of a 24-hour urine sample and a blood sample drawn at the end of the 24-hour period.
Because creatinine is found in stable plasma concentrations, is freely filtered and not reabsorbed, and is minimally secreted by the kidneys, creatinine clearance is used to estimate the glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
The creatinine clearance is an estimate of the glomerular filtration rate, that is, the volume of filtrate made by the kidneys per minute.

Effective Clearance Rate and Refiltration Estimation of Zebra Mussels, Dreissena polymorpha, in a Stratified Reservoir
The grazing impact of zebra mussels, Dreissena polymorpha Pallas, is often evaluated by applying the individual filtration rate measured in the laboratory to the field abundance and then by comparing the total volume of water filtered with the whole lake volume.
Taking the filtration rates for a 20-mm mussel to be between 116 and 234 mt ind(-1) h(-1), based on data from the literature, the clumped mussels under the present experimental conditions would have a refiltration ratio between 3.4 and 6.9.
The present authors developed an areal clearance model which predicts that seston removal by the Dreissena population is limited by the particle delivery from the ambient water to the mussel bed and will reach a maximum value beyond which no further increase will occur with increased population density.
