 Saskatchewan River
The Saskatchewan River, 1939 km long, is formed by the confluence of the North Saskatchewan (1287 km) and the South Saskatchewan (1392 km) rivers about 50 km east of PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. The system of waters has a combined length greater than the St Lawrence River and drains much of the western prairie.
The South Saskatchewan is formed in southern Alberta by the junction of the BOW and OLDMAN rivers.
The waters of the Saskatchewan enter Lake WINNIPEG at Grand Rapids and are carried to Hudson Bay by the NELSON RIVER.

 Clearwater River
Clearwater River, 280 km long, rises in Patterson, Forest and Lloyd lakes in northwest Saskatchewan, flows southeast to Careen Lake and abruptly turns west to join the ATHABASCA RIVER at Fort McMurray, Alberta.
It has cut spectacular gorges and waterfalls into the sandstone and limestone; the forest along its banks is still wild and is home to moose, deer, bear, wolf, lynx, geese, fox and beaver.
The only westward-flowing river between Winnipeg and the Rockies, it was an important link in the FUR TRADE ROUTE, connected to the CHURCHILL RIVER via Methye Portage.

In Canada the mottled sculpin is present in the Oldman River, Saskatchewan River drainage and the English, Winnipeg, and Nelson rivers (Crossman and McAllister 1986).
In Minnesota it is present in the upper Mississippi River and the Rainy River/Lake of the Woods, and is absent in the Minnesota River (Underhill 1989).
It is absent in the Missouri River drainage in North Dakota (Ryckman 1981) and South Dakota (Bailey and Allum 1962).

The water in the Virgin River is unbelievably clear, and the area around the falls is beautiful.
The river was full of sandbars, and the sandy banks were covered with small jack pines which were coming back after a fire.
We had 6 days on the river and were aiming for 2 days to Warner Bridge, another 2 to Contact Rapids, and a final 2 to Whitemud Falls.

We paused for lunch along the shore where the Descharme river joins the Clearwater and hiked a short distance into the bush to get an up close look at a one of these cabins.
The sandy shoreline we had grown accustomed to was transformed into rock and many islands appeared in the river.
A couple of us were positioned at river level on the other side of the falls with cameras and a throw bag in case someone fell out.

In 1778, fur trader Peter Pond stood at the height of land along the 19 km Methye Portage linking Lac La Loche to the Clearwater River.
He gazed down into these Arctic-bound waters which were destined to become the main route to the rich fur country to the north.

Saskatchewan Landing seems like 'the place to be' for watercraft owners...from sailboats to speed boats to personal watercraft, this place has it all!
