Apparently the Cleburne County Commission and Cleburne County Water Authority both thought the East Alabama Regional Planning Commission was responsible for administration of the grant when in fact the previous commission had committed the county to adminstration procedures.
Cleburne County Executive Officer Steve Swafford began to check into the matter once the county learned of the situation and he discovered the county’s responsibility as well as the fact the grant will end within three weeks.
Cleburne County Commission Ex-Officio Chairman Ryan Robertson read a letter to the commission, which he had received from the EPA, indicating that once an environmental impact report period had ended (scheduled for last week) then the federal grant money would be released to the county within two weeks.

A wheelchair-bound Cleburne County man killed his invalid wife and then attempted to kill himself Thursday afternoon in what sheriff's department officials described as an apparent mercy killing.
Thursday, Cleburne County Sheriff's deputies and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to a 911 call from 3396 County Road 36 in the Hollis-Chulafinnee area of Cleburne County.
Deputies found 54-year-old Jimmy Crawford wounded from what Cleburne County Sheriff Darrell Durham said was a self-inflicted shotgun wound.
