		Cleopatra was actually 20 or 21 years old, very intelligent (with the ability to speak many languages, as Plutarch had stated), and obviously had some ingenuity.
		In the play and movie, this is brought up as an issue, but yet both underplay her political motives and dramatize her use of feminine wiles (which she could have used while on the Nile with Caesar).

		One wishes to say yes, but in the end, the answer is no. Cleopatra is big and majestic but manages only to collapse under it's own weight due to several shortcomings and sheer boredom, yet this film would've been better.
		The first half rolls on well with Cleopatra and Julius Caesar mixing it up with politics and greed (pretty much the only piece of story you'll find), but there are several scenes that run 2-3 minutes too long.
		Cleopatra's entrance to Rome is impressive but with nothing going for it, it starts to run way too long and borders at times on the pretentious side.

		The first half of the movie is the story of their relationship, which ends tragically when the Roman senate turns on him and kills him (and if you consider that a spoiler, you really should have paid more attention in history class).
		It makes for a movie filled to the brim with plot and characters, and that steams along at a steady pace, but is unafraid to take a moment to deepen a character or create atmosphere.
		The movie itself has a great commentary track with Martin Landau, Fox publicist Jack Brodsky (who wrote a book about the making of the film), and the director's sons, Chris and Tom Mankiewicz (you might recognize Tom from the Superman commentary), who were onset for the whole production.
