Topic: Cleric (character class)

  Cleric :: d20srd.org
A cleric’s alignment must be within one step of his deity’s (that is, it may be one step away on either the lawful-chaotic axis or the good-evil axis, but not both).
Clerics are proficient with all simple weapons, with all types of armor (light, medium, and heavy), and with shields (except tower shields).
A cleric who grossly violates the code of conduct required by his god loses all spells and class features, except for armor and shield proficiencies and proficiency with simple weapons.

The cleric has a minimum wisdom of 9; if wisdom is greater than 15, the character gains a 10% bonus on experience in the cleric class.
The combat table for clerics is not as good at advancing levels as that for fighters, and they do not gain multiple attacks; however, they are better and advance in combat skill faster than magic-user or thief classes, and may use any armor.
Clerics may use most potions (those not restricted to another class), clerical and protection scrolls, most rings, some wands, rods, and staves, many other magical items, any magic armor, and any magic weapon which they would be permitted to use if non-magical.

 Neverwinter Nights Stratics - Clerics - An Introduction
Clerics can be played as a multiple classed character - the only races that can multi-class as a cleric without risking an XP penalty are half-elves and humans.
If your cleric or their deity is Evil then your cleric is Evil and may rebuke and control the undead.
Because of a cleric's ability to work as a healer or wield a weapon and attack an enemy, they are appreciated additions to any hunting party.

The choice of deities is dependent on the cleric's alignment and once chosen, the cleric will have access to a number of special abilities and spells related to their deity.
When this power is invoked, the cleric attempts to use the power of his or her patron deity to either terrify (if good or neutral) or control (if evil) a group of undead.
A cleric must select a specific deity that he or she will follow (more info on each deity can be found on the navigation bar to the right).

 Gestalt Characters :: d20srd.org
Class- and ability-based restrictions (such as arcane spell failure chance and a druid’s prohibition on wearing metal armor) apply normally to a gestalt character, no matter what the other class is.
Prestige classes that are essentially class combinations-such as the arcane trickster, mystic theurge, and eldritch knight-should be prohibited if you’re using gestalt classes, because they unduly complicate the game balance of what’s already a high-powered variant.
Gestalt characters can, for example, delve deeply into a dungeon on their first foray, when the dungeon denizens may not be expecting them.

Clerics who serve the Old Gods (the Oerian pantheon) are referred to as "oracles." Players may choose to play a Finnehake youngster who has been dedicated to one of the temples.
The special class abilities of the paladin are presumed to derive from the blessings of virtue, and to validate the special status of Mankaran belief as right and proper.

Clerics are trained in the use of simple weapons, and can use all forms of armor and shields without penalty, since armor does not interfere with the casting of divine spells.
A Cleric is advised to study the Heal skill in order to save his or her spells for more dire situations.
If the Cleric is hurt or dead he or she cannot aid the party and so it is important that the Cleric know when being defensive is better than being offensive in combat.

 Cleric
A cleric is a member of the clergy of a religion, especially one that has trained or ordained priests, preachers, or other religious professionals.
To use cleric is also appropriate for minor clergy who are tonsured in order not to trivialise orders such as those of Reader in the Eastern Church, or for those who are tonsured yet have no minor or major orders.
The term "clerk" derives from "cleric", since in medieval times the clergy were one of the few groups who could read, and therefore were often employed to do bookkeeping and similar work.

The Cleric is a holy person endowed by their patron deity with the power to heal, and, to a lesser extent, call upon the wrath of their deity to smite foes.
Clerics are possibly the most necessary part of any group of adventurers as they are rivaled by none in the art of healing.
Even with all of these god given abilities, clerics are better off staying within groups as their damage capabilities are weak at best making lone adventures difficult.

 CHARACTER GENERATION, A LOOK AT STARTING STATISTICS
So by generating a character without dice, a player gets the PC they want as opposed to being saddled with a character class they feel obligated to play because of the way the dice fell.

It all might work like this if ALL Skills had to be taught by the one also teaching them their class level, and these lessons were hopelessly intertwined with one another and had to be learned from one class related source, but that is not the case here.
