Dennis Maruk was the last Baron to be active in the NHL, retiring from the North Stars after the 1989 season.

The Coliseum opened to a Frank Sinatra concert on October 26, 1974, and throughout it’s existence was a highly regarded concert venue and a sought-after stop for major concert tours ranging from the Led Zeppelin to Whitney Houston.
Cleveland’s second attempt at major league hockey came when the NHL’s California Golden Seals were moved to the Coliseum for the 1976-77 season.
They were renamed the Cleveland Barons in an effort to rekindle memories of a successful minor league team that operated under the same name from 1937-1972.

The Cleveland Barons were Cleveland's SECOND attempt at major league hockey.
The team had been struggling since it entered the NHL in 1967-68, and after the 1975-76 season, the then-owners, the Gund brothers, decided to move it to Cleveland, where the WHA's Cleveland Crusaders played at the Richfield Coliseum.
The Richfield Coliseum outside Cleveland was torn down this spring by wrecking ball from 3/99 to 5/99.

During its lifetime, the Cleveland Arena was home to a variety of sports teams, including the Crusaders of the World Hockey Association, the Rebels of the Basketball Association of America, the Pipers of the American Basketball League and finally, the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association.
(Incidentally, the Barons were the name of Cleveland's short-lived NHL franchise.) The agreement was that the Crusaders, granted in June 1972, would be operational by the start of the 1972-73 season.
The offense sputtered for 1973-74, as Cleveland dropped to third in the eastern Division, bowing in the playoffs to the Toronto Toros.

This is after the Barons franchise will relocate to Worcester after only 5 years in Cleveland.
I suspect that part of the Barons' fan issues wasn't necessarily hockey in general, but the fact that they weren't very good many years (especially this season)...which is perplexing, given how strong the parent club has been and how deep the San Jose talent pool.
And the Barons are moving to Worcester a season after the Blues sold off the Ice Cats and *that* team was moved to Peoria.

Kraft later added a shorthanded tally midway through the second to give the Barons a 4-2 lead.
After yielding two goals on 10 first-period shots, Toskala buckled down and turned aside all 21 shots over the final two periods for the win, improving to 4-5-0.
