Cleveland County is a county located in the state of North Carolina.
Cleveland County is a member of the Isothermal Planning and Development Commission regional council of governments.
In the county the population is spread out with 25.20% under the age of 18, 8.80% from 18 to 24, 28.80% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 13.50% who are 65 years of age or older.

In the winter of 1782-'3 he was appointed a commissioner to survey the lands along the Cumberland that were allotted by North Carolina to her soldiers, and this done, he repaired to Boonesborough, Kentucky, where he settled as a planter.

Cleveland was formed in 1841 from Rutherford and Lincoln Counties.
It lies in the southwestern part of North Carolina, bounded by the state of South Carolina and Burke, Gaston, Lincoln and Rutherford counties.
In 1887 an act was passed changing the spelling of Cleveland from "Cleaveland county" to "Cleveland county." Shelby was incorporated in 1843 and is the county seat.
