By now it is a rare Clevelander who does not know, or know of, at least one man or woman of high talent whose drinking had become a public scandal, and who suddenly has straightened out "over night," as the saying goes-the liquor habit licked.
Inquiries made there are forwarded to a Cleveland banker, who is head of the local Fellowship, or to a former big league ball player who is recruiting officer of the Akron Fellowship, which meets Wednesday evenings in a mansion loaned for the purpose by a non-alcoholic supporter of the movement.
Every cured member of the Cleveland Fellowship of the society, like every cured member of the other chapters now established in Akron, New York, and elsewhere in the country, is cured with the admission that he submitted his plight wholeheartedly to a Power Greater than Himself.

Cleveland suffered (along with most other traditional cities) because government did too much: Using everything from highway subsidies to mortgage guarantees, it promoted the development of the countryside at the expense of long-established communities.
While New Orleans' historic architecture was ravaged in a single catastrophe, Cleveland's physical legacy crumbled in a thousand increments, squandered through neglect or bulldozed for parking lots.
In Cleveland, the core elements for the city's rebirth are also in place, thanks to a foresighted few; and their vision is more compelling than ever.

Miller, a scientist at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, and his colleagues in Green Energy say this is a great opportunity for Cleveland to take the initiative and use wind turbines in Lake Erie to promote the city and land new jobs.
If the project gets federal and city approval and funding, the group hopes to erect a 100-foot tower as early as this spring atop the Cleveland Water Department intake crib, the orange-and-white structure five miles north of Edgewater Park that is often mistaken for a ship or lighthouse on the lake horizon.

Nearly every Saturday evening they and their families have a party — just as gay as any other party held that evening despite the fact that there is nothing alcoholic to drink.
The Rev. Dr. Dilworth Lupton, pastor of the First Unitarian Church of Cleveland, found in a religious journal an enthusiastic review of the book by the Rev. Harry Emerson Fosdick, and sent it to the president of the local Fellowship.
Because of objects aplenty in whom he can vest his confidence, the patient can turn to the individuals to whom he first gave his confidence, the ex-alcoholic group as a whole, or to the Deity.

A Saturday Plain Dealer report on the fracas was picked up at DailyKos.com, a widely read progressive blog.
Twenty fleeting minutes later, the music stopped without warning leaving thousands left looking at each other slackjawed for a short while until a band member in a futile attempt spoke loudly in ten words or less without a microphone to inform whoever was in earshot why the gig was over.
It was sad such a wonderful celebration cut short by those who have forgot how to hear music except with their eyes as our ears beared witness to this strange sudden silence.

Overhauling the way Cleveland's schools are financed is the first priority, Jackson said.
He also recommended greater investment in Cleveland's arts and cultural institutions as a way to increase the region's identity as a unique place to visit.
