  St Andrew's Church, Clewer - History
The name Clewer, which appears in old documents as Clyfware and Clyvore, is said be mean "people of the cliff", the reference being to the bluff on which Windsor Castle stands which was in the manor of Clewer.
From time to time enthusiastic visitors assure us that Clewer Church is built on a ley line, and two men once "proved" this to their own satisfaction by carrying out a pendulum test inside the church.
The second is that in an area of total flatness Clewer church stands on a rise in the ground level.

The Manor of Clewer Brocas was owned, naturally enough, by the famous medieval family of the same name.
He was killed in the fighting and the King took on the wardship of his three sons.
It was to the memory of his wife, Mary, that he and his second wife founded the Brocas Chapel at Clewer Church in 1384.
