Clifford is a Muppet character performed by Kevin Clash.
While he was treated as a part of the Muppet family in the movie, his screen time was minimal and he was not part of the movie's main plot, a quest to rescue Gonzo.
At MuppetFest (a Muppet fan convention held in 2001), Kevin Clash revealed that he hated the eyes and is happy Clifford is wearing sunglasses again.

Anyway my thought on Clifford, i like him, i actually didn't think he was that tall but if that's what Henson gave Palisades then i'll accept it.
If you look at any picture of Clifford the one thing you'll notice about is he has a freakin HUGE head.

Randal Kleiser had parted ways from directing Muppets From Space for The Jim Henson Company due to "creative differences." It was reported today (Wednesday, August 5, 1998) by Reuters-Variety that newcomer Tim Hill is taking over as director of Muppets In Space.
Jerry Juhl has informed Muppet Central that he is no longer involved with the writing of the script of the next Muppet movie.
It is disappointing though to know that yet another Muppet veteran (along with Jerry Juhl) is not heavily involved with this project on a day-to-day basis.

The real reason this Muppet Show revival wasn't a success was because they took the focus away from all the Muppets we know and love (Kermit, Fozzie, Miss Piggy, etc.) and push them into the background while they make some pothead Muppet the host.
Muppets Tonight was, primarily, for the adults who were kids when the Muppet Show was on.
I was told that finding an adequate replacement for a muppet's performer (as in the ones by Rick, Jim and Frank) was harder than finding one for a cartoon voice, but i find that to be a bunch of balonga.

As a huge fan of the Muppet Show, I have to say that what most likely will be missing is not Jim Henson's innocence, but his and Frank Oz's wit and irreverence.
Yeah, it was in 1996 that 'Muppet's Tonight!' was first aired, and Kermit handed over the hosting responsibilities to Clifford (yeah, the purplish rastafarian muppet).
I think that was a serious bad move, because if you go back and watch the earlier episodes of the original muppet show a good portion of it was based on kermits interaction relationships with the cast behind stage and with the guest for that episode.

I am a muppet fan from WAY back, and while I enjoy this CD, I miss the "Henson" touch.
The Muppets are matched well with the artists and songs; Clifford was a natural choice for "On Broadway," for example, and the pairing of Gonzo and Jimmy Buffet seems to make sense in some way.
The muppets are part of every song but to varying degrees sometimes as observer/commentator or a duet with the famous singer.
