PhRMA Foundation - 2007 Awards - Clinical Pharmacology
As clinical pharmacology is a part of the broad field of pharmacology, the specific research project conducted during the tenure of the fellowship may be in any area of pharmacology.
If the important discipline of pharmacology, and this includes clinical pharmacology, is to have an essential influx of clinically-trained personnel in future years, it is vital that there be some means of promoting and identifying career interests in these areas.
Although pharmacology - clinical pharmacology, like any other highly-specialized field of medicine, is not likely to attract large numbers of students, provision must be made now to insure that pharmacology will recruit, with some regularity, an appropriate number of students to careers in the study of drugs and therapeutics.

Association for Medical School Pharmacology - Knowledge Objectives
Ideally, many of the clinically related facts should be taught in the fourth year after the students have learned enough clinical medicine so they can integrate the facts and principles of rational therapeutics into habits for patient management.
Integrating basic and clinical science: Students should develop the essential skills to enable them to incorporate principles of basic pharmacology into their clinical decision making patterns, as well as incorporate clinical factors into their approach to evaluating the pharmacology of medications.
Much of the material of clinical pharmacology cannot be taught effectively during the second year because the students have usually not had an adequate clinical experience to fully integrate and appreciate the material or principles involved.
