Clinton’s railroad bridge over the Mississippi River was one of two structures in Iowa identified by the Iowa Homeland Security office in mid-March as a critical site to protect from the threat of terrorism, just before U.S. military troops invaded Iraq.
Clinton Police Chief Brian Guy said he sent officers by the bridge, but the detail did not cost his department “much of anything” because most of the security workers came from state agencies and the railroad.
