In the county the population is spread out with 24.90% under the age of 18, 9.30% from 18 to 24, 30.20% from 25 to 44, 21.30% from 45 to 64, and 14.40% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county is $44,618, and the median income for a family is $52,580.

On May 12,1859, a contract was awarded to Griffith D. Smith of Pennsylvania, to satisfy demands for a bridge crossing the Kaskaskia River, open to the public along the Vincennes, St. Louis Road (Goshen Trail).
In 1951, primarily due to efforts of a number of Clinton County residents and local legislators, the Illinois General Assembly appropriated funds to rehabilitate the bridge.
In 1989, again due to concerted efforts of city administrators and legislative officials, the Illinois General Assembly appropriated sufficient funds to undertake major renovation and rehabilitation work on the structure.

Clinton County was erected from Washington, Bond and Fayette counties, and was named in honor of the distinguished statesman, DeWitt Clinton, of New York.
