Clinton Road is truly a special place, nestled in the center of Newark's 35,000-acre Pequannock Watershed, one of New Jersey's few remaining relatively unspoiled wildernesses, yet only 40 miles from New York City.
Summer is the season to explore the many trails that find their origin along Clinton Road, where with luck, mammals such as fl bear, river otter, beaver, porcupine, and red and gray foxes may be found.
This road is a short-cut to Union Valley Road and another location for golden-winged and worm-eating warblers in May and June at the powerline cut.

The road and the land around it over the years have gained notoriety as an area rife with many legends of paranormal occurrences such as sightings of ghosts, strange creatures and gatherings of witches, Satanists and the Ku Klux Klan.
The road, like the reservoir and brook in the area, gets its name from the now-vanished settlement of Clinton, which was located about where it crosses the brook.
There is evidence of the road having a similar reputation as it does today as early as 1905, when a writer cautioned travelers against the road citing reports of rampant banditry and witchcraft in the area.

It’s possible Clinton Road is actually no scarier than any other road, but it must possess the elements necessary to put people in touch with their own most deep-rooted fears.
Clinton Road, located off Route 23 in Northern NJ, was one of the first places I've explored after seeing Demon's Alley and the Jackson White Houses in Ringwood.
I recommend checking out Clinton Road for your page, but DO NOT go there at night (even though that is when all of the happenings go on) because the people there will chase you out.

It's uncertain when Clinton Road received its reputation, but I was aware of it as a teen growing up some 20 miles away in the early '70s.
The hell hound was likely a coyote caught in the headlights at the edge of the road, the accounts of satanic rituals might have stemmed from a distant campfire seen through the trees and the ghost stories explained away some of the routine sights and sounds of the forest at night.
Earlier this summer I drove to Clinton Road to hide the Weird NJ Rolling Rock moving cache.

A Clinton police report of the accident said Shindler was thrown 114 feet when his 1980 Kawasaki motorcycle was hit from behind by a 1993 Cadillac Deville driven by Betty Hall, 78, of Elk City.
Thirty-eight suggested names for Clinton’s new conference center have been submitted and are being circulated to the five members of the City Council and eight members of the Clinton Industrial Foundation for whittling to a workable number.

Clinton Road at the Long Island Rail Road grade crossing will be closed to all vehicular traffic Tuesday, July 18, Wednesday, July 19, and Thursday, July 20, from 8 a.m.
The MTA Long Island Rail Road has advised the Village of Garden City that it will be reconstructing the deteriorated railroad grade crossing on Clinton Road commencing Tuesday, July 19 and continuing through Thursday, July 20.
The work will necessitate the complete closing of Clinton Road in the area of the grade crossing in both directions between the hours of 8 a.m.

He added that if the road were to fall apart the village would be forced to fix it and that that would lead to cuts in the general fund and a decrease in programs.
The move caused an uproar with local trucking companies that use Tecumseh-Clinton Road as a main route as well as with the Lenawee County Road Commission and the neighboring City of Tecumseh, which would have seen an increase in truck traffic because of the restrictions.

CLINTON — In the last minutes of 2005, the Clinton Police Department was bringing in the New Year with a vehicle pursuit, which ended in the chased car being flipped and the driver apprehended on multiple charges.
Joseph Timothy Cashwell, 31, of 8495 Clinton Road, Stedman, was charged with driving while impaired, felony speeding to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving, failing to stop for blue lights and sirens and unsafe movement following the chase.
The driver was reportedly driving in and out of his travel lane and proceeded onto Overland Road, where the vehicle ran off the roadway twice, Dalton said in reports.
